We are looking for an enthusiastic Design & Technology Lead who will be accountable for the leadership, management, and development of Design & Technology, both within and outside the taught curriculum. You will design, develop, manage, and deploy physical, material and human resources in the delivery of Design and Technology across the school, you will secure high quality teaching, effective use of resources and high standards of learning and achievement for all students and support students learning and progress. You will also develop and enhance the teaching practice of others and act as a role model to specialists and non-specialists.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Lead and/ or support the development of appropriate syllabuses, resources and schemes of work for Design and Technology to ensure appropriate provision is in place at all key stages.
- Develop and implement policies, plans and practices for the development of Design and Technology which reflect the school’s commitment to high achievement and great teaching and learning.
- Monitor the impact of such policies and plans and practices, taking further action when appropriate, with a particular focus on Health and Safety.
- Create a climate which enables staff teaching Design and Technology in other key stages to develop and maintain a positive attitude and confidence in teaching.
- Ensure that whole school and Design and Technology aims, policies and practices are understood by all.
- Prioritise and manage own time effectively, particularly in relation to balancing the demands made by teaching, subject management, and involvement in school development.
- Help staff to achieve positive working relationships with students.
- Establish clear expectations and positive working relationships among staff teaching Design and Technology department including sharing good practice, mutual support and working as a team.
- Carry out performance management as required by school policy.
- Lead professional development of staff delivering Design and Technology through example and support including where appropriate, the use of coaching, appropriate training providers and CPD courses.
- Be responsible for the line management of staff, including support staff, and lead department meetings where appropriate, working alongside other Heads of Department.
