Job description

Dawat-e-Islami, a renowned global Islamic charitable organisation with centres throughout the UK, is looking to recruit a Designated Safeguarding Lead to join the organisation. Safeguarding Statement: Dawat-e-Islami is committed to safeguarding children and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We will ensure that all our recruitment and selection practices reflect this commitment. All successful candidates will be subject to Disclosure Barring Service checks along with other relevant employment checks. The procedures include questioning at interview stage, verification of appropriate qualification, acquiring references, and necessary safety checks.
You will be designated as Dawat-e-Islami UK’s Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL).
You will have overall responsibility of safeguarding the children and young people we work with. See the full list of this roles description below:
• The DSL will take lead responsibility for all child protection matters arising at the charity and will support all other members of staff and volunteers in relation to any safeguarding or child protection concerns that arise.
• Provide / arrange training and guidance to staff and volunteers where necessary
• Monitor charity's safeguarding email address with any incoming messages or reports on safeguarding issues.
• The DSL is responsible for keeping detailed, accurate, secure records of concerns, allegations and referrals for any Child Protection issues.
• Follow and adhere to the Safeguarding Policy at all times.
• Report to the Trustees when a safeguarding concern arises.
• Attend trustee meetings if required and called upon.
• Report any urgent safeguarding concerns to the appropriate service or authority.
Essential Requirements:
• Minimum level 3 Safeguarding qualification
• Able to demonstrate a clear understanding of and practical application of the National Prevent Strategy and the Counter Terrorism and Securities Act and Evidence of undertaking a safeguarding-related investigation
• Evidence of Multi-agency child safeguarding practices, understanding of current and relevant safeguarding legislations, regulations, guidance, and best practices
• Confident with very strong communication skills in all areas
• Resilient and have great IT skills including the safeguarding/ child protection systems
• Full UK driving license and access to personal car
• Have Maths and English to 4 at GCSE or equivalent
• Be educated to at least A level standard
• Have knowledge and understanding of Keeping Children Safe in Education
• Have understanding of need to maintain strictest confidentiality about all matters concerning school
• Be committed to the safeguarding of young people
• Have experience of dealing with sensitive issues
• Passionate about child-centered educational principles

• Any offers made will be subject to a clear enhanced DBS check and completion of mandatory e-modules prior to starting the job

Hours of work: Full time 40 hours per week
Pay: Negotiable depending on experience and qualifications
Holiday entitlement: Pro Rata
Start Date: As soon as clear enhanced DBS is received and Mandatory online modules have been completed by the candidate.
