We need you to join The Development Advice teams and support Regions Group’s unique and respected national role to identify, explain, protect and care for the historic environment, providing influential advice on the management of change to historic sites, buildings and places across the country. We do this by ensuring our advice is informed, authoritative, creative and consistent. We help shape historic places for the public good so that the historic environment plays its role in making vital places for people now and in the future.
National salary range:
£36,603 - £38,400 pro-rata
Greater London + salary range:
£39,408 - £41,300 pro-rata
Inner London salary range:
£40,748 - £42,700 pro-rata
What you will be doing:
The role of the Programme Officer is to support the Head of Development Advice in the oversight of Development Advice work and to work as a member of the Central Team. It encompasses both helping to ensure that the work of Development Advice teams is carried out to agreed standards and targets, and creating and supporting or implementing a wide-ranging process of review and improvement. The Programme Officer will enable this work and take an active part in all aspects of it, working with colleagues across the country.
The Programme Officer is responsible for supporting a broad programme of improvement for Development Advice. The Programme Officer will support the work of the Development Advice Forum; ensure effective monitoring of contentious casework; create and maintain systems and methods to enable continuous improvement; implement a continuing programme of review for desk instructions; support the achievement of performance against Group targets; and maintain relationships with relevant colleagues across Historic England.
Please note that the role:
may require visiting/inspecting sites which is likely to require climbing scaffolding and negotiating confined space (e.g. Church roofs, etc.)
may require occasional attendance at external meetings which could be held at evenings or weekends.

Knowledge of historic environment and the planning system
