What is the Opportunity?
You will be joining the Counterparty Credit Risk (CCR) team in London, within the Group Risk Management function of the Royal Bank of Canada. You will be joining a dynamic team with presence in London, Toronto, New York and Singapore.
The CCR London team is responsible for monitoring, analysing, credit-sizing and reporting on Counterparty Credit Risk exposures stemming from the European trading activity within RBC Capital Markets, RBC Investor Services and RBC Wealth Management in Channel Islands.
You will be leading a team primarily responsible for the management and oversight of Counterparty Credit Risk out of our Commodities Financing, Central Funding and European Futures Client Clearing businesses, as well as all trading businesses booked out of RBC Europe Ltd.
What will you do?
- Lead and develop a small team of risk managers responsible for the management, credit-sizing and oversight of Counterparty Credit Risk. Primary business coverage includes, but is not limited to, our European Central Funding and Global Commodities Financing business.
- Primary point for the management and oversight of Counterparty Credit Risk stemming from all businesses booked out of our UK subsidiary, RBC Europe Ltd and assist where required for other European subsidiaries/branches. Management includes maintenance of the RBC Europe Ltd Credit policy, driving the co-ordination of the monthly UK Counterparty Credit Risk Committee and providing updates as required related to the Counterparty Credit Risk profile of RBC Europe Ltd.
- Actively contribute to the development of strategic priorities for both CCR London and your immediate team, with a clear path and timeline to complete.
- Drive recruiting, establish and oversee ongoing training plans for the CCR London team.
- Investigate and escalate as required any excesses on authorized credit limits to key stakeholders across the business and Group Risk Management. Individual will be responsible for presenting breaches to the Market and Counterparty Credit Risk Conduct Committee chaired by the SVP, Global Head Market & Counterparty Credit Risk.
- Provide insight to a wide variety of stakeholders from the global Capital Markets platform regarding specific Counterparty Credit Risk exposures and trends (both at a counterparty and portfolio level). Key stakeholders include individuals and senior management from Sales and Trading, Legal, Operations, Relationship Managers and other GRM partners across our global footprint.
- Provide timely analysis (Counterparty Credit Risk and assessment of stress risk) to key stakeholders in GRM to facilitate trade request which fall outside of authorized limits, standing orders or other queries related to Counterparty Credit Risk.
- Review, along with MD Counterparty Credit Risk London, all relevant New Business and Product requests, working with business, IT and GRM stakeholders to propose frameworks to address Counterparty Credit Risk considerations.
What do you need to succeed?
Must-have
- Undergraduate or Master’s Degree in a technical discipline (such as Math, Finance, Economics or other quantitative discipline).
- Clearly demonstrates strong risk assessment, analytical and strategic mind-set.
- Able to challenge viewpoints with the aim of achieving a common goal.
- Strong communication and presentation skills; able to produce clear, concise and well-written documents.
- Strong desire to invest in and develop early talent.
- Strong desire to work in a fast-paced environment and build on proven capability of prioritizing multiple requests/deliverables.
Nice-to-have
- Demonstrated interest in risk management, such as enrollment or successful completion of the FRM designation.
- Understanding of Capital Markets trading products and/or related Credit Risk concepts (TTL, PFE, MTM, ETCs, etc.).
- Experience with Python or knowledge of object-oriented programming.
