About Shelter

A home is a fundamental human need, as essential as education or healthcare. Yet millions of people across Britain struggle on a daily basis with homelessness, bad housing conditions, soaring rents, discrimination, and the threat of eviction. So, we are striving for change, with individuals, in communities, across society, and leading the way to a safe home. We need ambitious, best-in-class individuals who are passionate about our cause to join us at this exciting time. This is your chance to play a part in the fundamental change we are striving to achieve.

At Shelter we are united by our purpose to defend the right to a safe home. Our enemy is the social injustice at the core of the escalating housing emergency. We believe that to win that fight, we must be representative of the people we are here to help and those who support our movement for change. In all our people decisions, we take pride in being inclusive, fair, equitable and transparent.

We have committed to combat racism both within and outside Shelter and welcome you on our journey to becoming a truly anti-racist organisation.

About The Team

Our Campaigns, Policy and Communication (CPC) directorate is a large geographically dispersed and passionate team at Shelter, where we're dedicated to defending the right to a safe home.

The CPC directorate is at the forefront of driving change in the housing landscape of Britain. Comprising experts in campaigning, organising, policy development, marketing, communication, and digital innovation, our team is committed to tackling homelessness, poor housing conditions, and housing inequality head-on. We are united by our purpose and strive to create a fairer society for those in need.

The team works closely with colleagues across Shelter, and particularly with people who have direct experience of the worst effects of the housing emergency. We are single minded about the change we seek, but we are broad in our reach and expertise.

About The Role

As the Director of Campaigns, Policy, and Communications at Shelter, you will lead a large, committed and highly motivated directorate to develop evidence-based solutions to the housing emergency and garner support for them among local communities, policymakers, politicians, and the wider public.

One of the foremost campaigning roles in the charity sector, this is a unique opportunity to shape key public and political debates, drive strategic initiatives, ensure Shelter's presence is felt across various platforms, and play a central role in our next Strategic Plan from April 2025.
