Director of Estates (School Trust) - £57k to £62k - Croydon - Permanent

This Educational Trust is an expanding learning community for young people, with Educational Health Care Plans and various types of additional needs across various sites. They are now looking for a Director of Estates to join their Executive Team. The Director of Estates will lead the implementation of an estates strategy and to manage all aspects of the school’s properties including upkeep, care, maintenance, security, health and safety and facilities management in line with statutory and regulatory requirements. The Director of Estates will also maintain refurbishments and other building advancements in term of bidding, developing and procuring and to act as the School representative with suppliers to the estate, professional advisers (buildings) and contractors, leading, support and develop site teams across the Trust, as well as providing support and advice to the Deputy CEO.

SALARY ETC:

  • £57,000 to £62,000 + benefits.
  • Permanent, full-time
  • Based in the Head Office, located in Croydon, however you will be expected to visit the various sites at least once a month, so you must have a car and clean driving license.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must have full rights to work in the UK.
  • To have a clean driving license and access to a car.
  • Educated to a degree standard or equivalent (Management and/or Facilities related qualification(s), or equivalent experience)
  • NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent (IOSH also an advantage but not essential)
  • Experience of managing a facilities service preferably across multiple sites.
  • Experience of managing staff
  • Building maintenance & Budget management experience.
  • Experience of Emergency planning and Contingency
  • Advising on legislative compliance & Project Management experience.
  • Knowledge/Experience of Facilities management, Building systems and Security Management, Energy management.
  • Excellent communication, coordination, management and understanding of equality.
  • You must also be willing to have a DBS and background checks, if selected, which will be carried out by the Trust.

DUTIES TO INCLUDE:

  • Complete of all statutory returns relating to estates and facility management in liaison with the Deputy CEO
  • Write and oversee the estates strategic annual and 3-5 year plan based from the condition surveys
  • Lead on bids for capital funding including Condition Improvement Fund
  • Manage all Site budgets, writing of action plans and budget bids, taking responsibility for procurement, tendering and supplier management.
  • Perform due diligence checks and create reports on any potential schools who may join the Trust in the future.
  • To lead on estates-related issues concerning buildings, freehold and leasehold tenure and other related matters.
  • Develop an Environmental Policy and a strategy to reduce the Trust’s carbon footprint.
  • Review and make recommendations to the Trust with regard to the Trust’s energy supplies.
  • To ensure sites are managed pro-actively, all activities undertaken and works carried out align fully comply with all relevant health and safety legislation
  • Drive financial efficiency in estates and facilities related spend.
  • Assist/manage the design and build of new projects from minor works to major projects.
  • Liaise with all relevant bodies, DFE, ESFA and the Local Authority in the planning and programming of projects.
  • Ensure all projects reflect the needs of the Trust and achieve value for money.
  • Co-ordinate works carried out to determine design detail specification and estimates prior to approval.
  • Control tendering procedures for authorised schemes and prepare necessary reports.
  • Be responsible for medium and long term plans and maintenance schemes
  • Ensure all sites are appropriately alarmed and monitored by external body
  • Regular audits of each site are undertaken and any potential risks have been reported to the Head Teacher
  • To lead on Service Level Agreements and Key Performance Indicators for reactive maintenance and planned preventative maintenance, using performance metrics to drive service level improvements.
