This is a chance to lead our Finance Management function at a hugely exciting time. GMCA is a trailblazer, already the pioneers of English Devolution, Greater Manchester is going further and faster with a programme of further devolution that will see various functions such as transport, planning and economic regeneration transferred from Whitehall to the Combined Authority. This landmark change means you’ll be working with senior figures including Andy Burnham, the Mayor of Greater Manchester, as well as the Treasurer and the GMCA Deputy Mayor (in relation to Policing and Crime Commissioner responsibilities). With this high-profile agenda, this is no ordinary Finance role.

To achieve our objectives, we need a high-quality, customer-focused Financial Management service – and that’s exactly what you’ll build. Managing various Heads of Finance, you’ll shape your function while tackling Business As Usual  finance, embracing change and driving efficiency day-to-day. Meanwhile, you’ll oversee all aspects of core financial processes, final accounts and treasury management, while acting as our Deputy Section 73 Officer (S151 equivalent).  

To excel, you’ll need to be a member of the Consultative Committee of Accountancy Bodies (CCAB) who’s used to working at senior level. With this background, you can prepare budgets, manage large contractual arrangements and apply rigorous monitoring. Organised and highly numerate, you’ll think strategically and apply innovative solutions to improve the way we work. A relevant degree is an advantage but isn’t essential – it’s your skills and behaviours that are important . We’re looking for a leader who can work with a broad cast of stakeholders, from elected members to external bodies. If you’re organised, capable and collaborative, we want to hear from you.
