The Director of Operations role sits on the Executive Leadership Team and its purpose is to lead on the delivery of appropriate land, properties, facilities, mechanical and electrical engineering, IT infrastructure, IT services and stage technical services to support effective and compliant delivery of the Hippodrome's organisational strategy and operational requirements. The role has to ensure delivery of suitable infrastructure for immediate needs while creating deliverable plans for maintenance, renewal and change for the medium and long term. The role is also critical in making sure that the company has safe, secure and compliant infrastructure and is ready to respond to the unexpected, with suitable plans to ensure business continuity.
The Hippodrome estate is based in Southside, Birmingham, and includes our main auditorium and stagehouse, a multi-format studio theatre, associated rehearsal studios, public, operational and administrative spaces and the Southside Building, let as commercial office space. Parts of the estate are occupied by partner organisations (Birmingham Royal Ballet, FABRIC, One Dance UK and others) in a range of structures from long leases to short-term licenses and facilities are shared extensively with artists. This means that partnership working and responding to the needs of a porous site with interlocking usages is crucial.
