Barnsley Council are seeking a Dog Wardento join the team based in Barnsley. You will be working on a full time, 12 month Fixed Term contractand in return, you will receive a competitive salary of GBP29,269 - GBP32,076 per annum.
About the Dog Warden role:
As our temporary Dog Warden, you will spend much of your time out in the community, working closely with our current Dog Warden. You will be part of the wider Animal Health & Trading Standards team where you may be asked provide support in these areas.
Regulatory Services at Barnsley protect the health, safety and well-being of those who live, work in and visit the borough. The Dog Warden role is very much an integral part of our team, ensuring stray dogs in the borough are captured to protect public safety and avoid the spread of diseases, along with ensuring they are kept safe ensuring they are kept safe while we try to reunite them with their owners.
The main duties of our Dog Warden include:
- Undertake a full range of professional duties with minimal supervision, which includes investigating complaints and requests for service, undertaking proactive monitoring and visits to assess any non compliance in relation to stray, captured or dangerous dogs; contributing to the delivery of the business and operational unit plans
- Patrol areas and to remove captured or stray or dangerous dogs in public places and where practicable, from private land on request of the landowner, to the Council's approved kennels or a veterinary centre.
- Responsible for the use and daily checking for any visible defects of a council vehicle, reporting any issues
- Prepare reports, (including those for prosecution), as directed, correspondence and notices, and serve and enforce formal notices in relation to complaints, investigations, and visits
- Ensuring that the priorities and policies of the Council are carried out by contributing to the delivery of Operational Unit Plans, operational priorities and assist in the delivery of the Rabies Plan when required
- Maintain accurate, up to date, detailed records of actions taken including where required the use of computer equipment for data input and extraction, and for the production of statistical information
- To monitor conditions at, and records held by, the Councils' approved boarding kennels and to facilitate dog surrender where appropriate, including banned breeds
- To undertake training and development opportunities as required
- Educate members of the public on responsible dog ownership, including the relevant legislation.
What you'll need as our Dog Warden:
To join us, you'll need a minimum of a level 2 qualification and some prior experience relevant to the role in dog handling & animal welfare and an ability to communicate effectively with people in all walks of life, and a commitment to training and professional development in this rewarding field of work. The role involves the capturing of stray dogs including large dogs.
