As an apprentice you’ll be receiving practical and professional training right from the start. Working alongside experienced colleagues who will supervise your development and a dedicated mentor providing support and guidance throughout your training. You will have regular reviews with your manager and tutor so you know how you are doing and can gain support with any activities to help you progress.

At Southampton City Council we are committed to paying Foundation Living Wage as a minimum and we believe apprentices should also be paid fairly. Your salary as an apprentice will be £23,151 annually and may increase in line with any national rise in Foundation Living Wage. 

Although we can’t guarantee you a permanent job at the end of your apprenticeship, we will support you to apply for other roles within the council, and help make sure you are ready for a wider job search with support from our Employment Skills team. 

About the role:

We are looking for a confident and conscientious individual to undertake the role of Apprentice within our Neighbourhood Warden and have 3 full time posts available.

You will:

  • Ensure the efficient day-to-day management of the area, becoming a visible and accessible focal point for all neighbourhood issues.
  • Assist in providing a safe and well-maintained environment in the area, with the aim of improving the quality of life to all local people.
  • Support, monitor and report upon block/neighbourhood services provided, working in close partnership with other divisions and agencies.
  • Assist in the promotion of Community Safety, environmental improvements, and contribute to community development.
  • Help maintain neighbourhoods and support the Neighbourhood Warden Service by carrying out relevant compliance checks and health and safety inspections within the neighbourhood and the communal areas of the tower and walk-up blocks
  • Help deliver the improvement works across the districts, ensuring service quality, resident satisfaction and value for money are always maintained.
  • Carry out a range of activities including health and safety, building maintenance, customer service and teamwork.

You will be working towards the Level 2 Facilities Services Operative apprenticeship with Hopwood Hall College. The duration of this apprenticeship is 12 months plus 3 months for the End Point Assessment

Additional information:

  • This working hours for this role are 37 hours a week.
  • This is a fixed term position and the salary will be pro rata of the above salary.
  • This post is fixed term for 15 months 
  • Please note that appointments are usually made at the bottom of the salary scale.
  • This post requires a DBS check.
  • For any posts that require a DBS check, if you have lived outside the UK within the last 5 years, you will be required to provide a Certificate of Good Conduct or a police certificate from the country/countries you have resided in. Kindly note that this is at the expense of the candidate, as well as any costs involved for translating into English.

Interview Information:

Interviews are provisionally scheduled for 17th and 18th June 2024 with a provisional start date of August / September 2024.
