Job description

Our client is dedicated to enhancing the welfare of working animals globally through innovative approaches that bolster support systems, foster capacity building, enact policy changes, and provide training, education, and treatment. With a recent centenary celebration and the launch of an ambitious five-year strategy, they are committed to making a meaningful impact.

In a world increasingly challenged by environmental degradation, climate change, and complex emergencies, there is a growing need to mitigate risks and build resilience within communities. We are seeking a Disaster, Risk, and Resilience (DRR) & Emergencies Programme Manager to develop a comprehensive strategy for disaster risk reduction (DRR) and manage our client's Emergencies Programme.

While the role is classified as hybrid, offering flexibility for remote work, occasional in-person visits to our client's London office and international travel will be required. Standard working hours are 34.5 hours per week, with core hours between 10 am and 4 pm.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Alignment with Organizational Strategy:
  • Co-design the DRR mainstreaming approach in alignment with our client's strategic plan.
  • Ensure that the Emergencies Programme aligns with our client's organizational strategy.
  • Advise on the alignment of our client's approach with relevant global frameworks and policies.

Strategy Development:

  • Develop a strategy paper on DRR for working animals and oversee its implementation.
  • Identify and operationalize criteria for emergency partner funding.
  • Contribute to our client's institution-wide Quality Framework with DRR and emergency response protocols.

Partnerships and Collaboration:

  • Identify partnerships within the humanitarian and development sectors to support working animal welfare.
  • Leverage One Health principles to develop strategic partnerships with humanitarian actors.
  • Support the localization of DRR mainstreaming and emergency programme strategy.
  • Technical Advisory and Capacity Building:
  • Provide technical advice on DRR and emergencies, linking them to working animal welfare.
  • Lead the development of guidance, protocols, and tools for DRR and emergency programming.
  • Support capacity development through training, mentoring, and coaching.

Requirements:

  • Degree in international development, disaster risk reduction, humanitarian relief, or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of project management experience in DRR and/or humanitarian response.
  • Familiarity with global, regional, and local DRR and humanitarian relief frameworks.
  • Proficiency in English (French desirable).
  • Willingness to travel internationally.
