Start date: September 2024

Looking to apply your academic knowledge in a business context?
Why this job matters
Are you a recent graduate or due to graduate in 2024? Do you already have some work experience and want to develop your skills in a technical role starting in September 2024? Kickstart your career within BT Business.
BT Group's work in cyber security has an impact all over the world and for all types of business customers big and small. Our partners rely on us to keep them safe, which is where you come in.
You'll join our expert team of experienced Security Professionals, so you can learn directly from the best. You'll help to provide technical support on complex network security and cyber security deployments for our UK secure contracts. Working across a variety of different platforms and technologies, including Data Centre Servers, Networking and Cloud based tools, you'll develop a wide range of skills and experience.
This role is vital in delivering a best-in-class customer service experience to all of our clients. The security team makes sure appropriate actions are taken to reduce the risk of incidents and maintain services, to avoid any impact to the customer's set up.
It's a job that involves a lot of teamwork; everyone relies on and helps each other to do the best job possible for our business customers. You'll have a lot going on at once and can be managing lots of complex workloads and competing priorities. But we'll work with you to make sure you can manage it.
What you'll be doing
You'll be joining a security team that supports our government customers and you will develop your career pathway within a diverse and multi-disciplinary Engineering team, broadening your skills in network design, delivery and support that can help us counter Cyber Security threats to our network or help us localise network problems.
  • You will contribute to the design and deployment of new bespoke networks and platforms as well as supporting and maintaining existing ones.
  • You should also contribute to innovation and development of new products, and process improvement initiatives.
  • You will assist in the development of automated processes and procedures for simplifying and speeding up delivery and support activities.
  • Under the direction of a project lead, you will work collaboratively with customers and stakeholders to build close working relationships and build domain knowledge.
  • You will develop your own knowledge and skills with network equipment, configurations, routing and switching protocols as well as firewall deployments.
  • You will gain an understanding of platform architecture along with the operating systems and software required to deliver and manage them.
Hi, I am Georgie, I work in Technology Services for BT. I joined BT as part of the graduate scheme in September 2021 and since have rolled off into the same team I was working in during the scheme. My role is primarily supporting networks, working on both existing and new. This has given me exposure to a wide range of technologies and applications meaning I am constantly learning and improving my skills. I also have the opportunity to prove my new knowledge and develop it further by completing formal qualifications. I work in a great team, everyone is very helpful and supportive which means you are never alone facing an issue, there is always someone willing to step in and help you out.
The skills & experience you'll need
The role is also subject to you gaining and keeping the necessary level of security clearance needed to undertake your work. The result of the security clearance vetting is not subject to appeal. Failure to successfully achieve and maintain the necessary level of security clearance may see any offer of employment with BT cease or withdrawn.
We will also be looking for the following:
• A 2.2 degree or higher in a relevant STEM subject.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Strong communication skills.
• Strong IT skills.
• The ability to simplify complex technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders.
Desired but not essential:
• Knowledge or experience of contact centre, video, collaboration, or voice technologies.
Due to the sensitive nature of this role you will be required to have DV (Developed Vetting) level Security Clearance ( https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/united-kingdom-security-vetting-clearance-levels/national-security-vetting-clearance-levels). An allowance of £5k per annum will be payable monthly while you hold this DV and continue to work in a role that requires that level of security clearance. The terms of this allowance will be made available if you are successful in being recruited into this role.
