Hi, I'm Matt, a technical support engineer that joined BT as a cyber security apprentice. I joined back in 2018 and spent the first few years being put through my degree a De Montford university and learning along the way from everyone that I encountered in all the teams I have worked in. Towards the end of 2022 I was offered a job which I currently still do within the Obligations team, firstly it was a promotion into a managerial role helping me progress my career path but also offered a whole lot more. Firstly, the role allows me to showcase and grow a large range of skills that I have been developing over my time working for BT in both the physical and software stage. The role requires me to look after entire platforms meaning skills with Windows, Linux, VMware and a range of other technologies is needed in order for me to complete my job, along with working on all the software involved with the platform, I am also required to get stuck in with the hardware that the systems run on and assisting the wider team with building brand new cutting edge platforms keeping us ahead of the curve and ready for anything the future might hold. By far the best part of my role is the job satisfaction and knowing that the work I do helps in a major way, we constantly receive customer feedback with stories of how the work we do has helped people more than we know and it drives me to continue to keep what I am doing every day.
The skills & experience you'll need
The role is also subject to you gaining and keeping the necessary level of security clearance needed to undertake your work. The result of the security clearance vetting is not subject to appeal. Failure to successfully achieve and maintain the necessary level of security clearance may see any offer of employment with BT cease or withdrawn.
We will also be looking for the following:
• A 2.2 degree or higher in a relevant STEM subject.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Strong communication skills.
• Strong IT skills.
• The ability to simplify complex technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders.
Desired but not essential:
• Knowledge or experience of contact centre, video, collaboration, or voice technologies.
Due to the sensitive nature of this role you will be required to have DV (Developed Vetting) level Security Clearance ( https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/united-kingdom-security-vetting-clearance-levels/national-security-vetting-clearance-levels). An allowance of £5k per annum will be payable monthly while you hold this DV and continue to work in a role that requires that level of security clearance. The terms of this allowance will be made available if you are successful in being recruited into this role.
