Title and Summary
Electrical/Critical Building Services Engineer 1- Overview
Vocalink Mastercard are looking for an experienced electrically biased Building Services Engineer to join its long-standing Data Centre Engineering team at Loughton Essex.
2- Role
The role is to help ensure the Data Centre Engineering Infrastructure, which supports the company’s core business is fit for purpose and able to deliver its 24/7 services without failure. This is achieved by being part of a shift based team of in house Engineers and external contractors providing hands on expertise in operation, maintenance and fault rectification of the engineering infrastructure to ensure business availability on a 24 hour 365 day basis.
Faults, rectification and operation of engineering infrastructure:
The DC Engineering Team are responsible and accountable for providing Building Services to the company’s premises. The post holder, whilst having formal qualifications in a specific engineering discipline, requires good technical knowledge with practical experience of all the below services in order to operate, test, fault diagnose and provide front line response with respect to rectification within the complex engineering facility:
  • Lighting and emergency lighting and associated control systems
  • Heating, ventilation and comfort cooling and air-conditioning, prime systems and controls
  • Electrical distribution systems and switchgear 400/230volts
  • Uninterruptible power supply systems and static transfer switches which supply IT systems. Knowledge and operating experience
  • Power generation using in-house generator systems and controls
  • Computerised fire detection systems and fixed fire extinguishant systems
  • Computerised Building Management System responsible for the operation and monitoring of all engineering systems.

Planned maintenance activities:
The team carry out preventative planned maintenance activities, implemented using PC based system according with specialist supplier’s recommendations and experience. These tasks are coordinated with Change Management and other departments, so as to have no impact upon core services, but still ensuring the engineering infrastructure remains resilient and operational at all times whilst supports various ISO standards.eg. 45001.
Project Design, Development and system upgrade:
The department undertakes various types of projects with varying levels of complexity, ranging from the installation of new services/supplies for the data hall, departmental infrastructure requirements, and engineering system enhancements including major capital projects.
The Team also control/oversee the installation of new IT infrastructure from various departments and services within and external to Vocalink Mastercard.
3- All About You
Required
  • Completed a time served apprenticeship in Electrical installation/ engineering, ONC or HNC level qualification
  • Have a thorough understanding of PC based systems covering planned maintenance, fire detection and extinguishant systems, building management control systems and system interfaces, bespoke software used for monitoring and testing
  • Experience of both maintenance and installation work
  • Have sound communication skills and be able to talk at a technical and non-technical level to senior levels when required
  • Be capable of working under own initiative and take the effective course of action when under pressure
  • Be a good team player and motivator
  • Be quick to learn and willing to attend training courses if required
  • Be willing to work within a shift-based system with an element of unsociable working hours and be flexible within that system if required
  • Potentially participate in the standby/callout system
  • Must be able to achieve Government site level security clearance
  • Be PC literate with good knowledge of WORD and EXCEL with ability to learn Change Management systems.

Desirable
  • Electrical Inspection and Testing qualified, City & Guild 2391 or equivalent

  • Certified Data Centre Technician Professional( CDCTP ) or equivalent qualification
  • Data Centre or critical environment experience.
