EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Fixed Term Contract

RESPONSIBLE TO: Operations Manager, Midland Mencap

SALARY: £26,100 per year (FTE)

HOURS: 30 hours

Where: You will be based in Birmingham

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working alongside and engaging with a range of people with learning disabilities and/ or autism and those who care for them.
  • Understanding of health care structures and systems
  • Good knowledge of GDPR and storing personal information on database systems
  • Maintaining records
  • Connecting with individuals, groups, and networks
  • Experience of working alongside sessional staff and volunteers
  • Experience of supervising staff.

The Engagement Coordinator will be working as part of the LeDeR Capturing Change: Lived Experience Project Team. The team is a partnership between three organisations: Solihull Action through Advocacy, Midland Mencap and Solihull Experts by Experience (EbE). The position covering the Solihull region will be supervised by Solihull Advocacy and the position covering Birmingham will be supervised by Midland Mencap.

What Does a LeDeR Engagement Coordinator do?

To ensure a regular programme of engagement with local citizens who have learning disabilities and/ or autism as well as key stakeholders and to build successful relationships with a wide range of local groups, community services and health and social care leaders who will be able to aid you in your outreach.

You will involve people with learning disabilities/autism in discussions and create various alternative methods for people to share their experiences of accessing and receiving health care services throughout Birmingham.

The information captured will support the reflective learning and review the effectiveness of the Learning Disability Mortality Review (LeDeR) Programme. LeDeR’s overall aim is to learn from the lives as well as deaths of people with learning disabilities and autism so that service delivery and patient experience can be improved.

Key Tasks:

  • Actively seek and create opportunities to engage and empower individuals, community groups and services within your geographical area.
  • Plan, organise and coordinate focus groups with people with learning disabilities and key stakeholders.
  • Meet with people on an individual basis (in person, via zoom, on the phone) to gather views and experiences.
  • Assist in the creation of an online portal for people to submit their views online, monitor its use and record what information is received.
  • Work with the Project lead to recruit and supervise engagement support staff and volunteers (people with lived experience).
  • Collate, record, and store all information received on the organisation database.
  • Attend meeting with the wider LeDeR action groups as required to present findings and discuss actions.
  • Support the preparation of reports and briefing papers as required.
  • Contribute to the annual regional LeDeR conference.
  • Ensure appropriate professional boundaries with adults, young people, parents and carers are maintained.
  • Attend training courses as required to develop knowledge and skills to improve the quality of service.
  • Contribute to the wider staff and volunteer team e.g. attending team meeting and other events.
  • Carry out any other tasks that are deemed appropriate within your job role and the aims of the organisation.
