JOB TITLE: Engineering Lead - Insurance, Pensions & Investments Platform
LOCATION(S): Edinburgh, Bristol or Leeds
HOURS:Full-time
WORKING PATTERN: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week, or 40% of our time, at one of the office locations above

Through the ongoing development, modernisation and simplification of the shared platforms and services that sit at the heart of the Insurance Pensions and Investments business, the Insurance, Pensions & Investments Foundations platform plays a key role in the realisation of this vision.
You'll be pivotal in shaping the vision for the Lab, and as a result centre on setting the strategic direction for the engineering teams to demonstrate thought leadership in contemporary technical delivery, across the entire lifecycle, from idea to realisation of value.
You’ll also collaborate with Engineering Leads in other platforms (within IP&I and across the Group).

Here's how you'll make a difference...
  • You’ll be responsible for the successful delivery of the Shared Components backlog to deliver features on the product roadmaps, manage down technical debt, maintain the health of production instances and to create the space to develop the skills needed by the target technology architecture.
  • Foster a Fail Fast, Learn Faster mentality within Teams to experiment and test new ways of engineering
  • Work closely with the Product Owners to prioritise system improvements alongside the delivery of product features, driving high quality change delivery.
  • Act as a change agent for engineering and team culture, promoting a test and learn approach, systems thinking and user experience led design.
  • You’ll understand Systems Thinking and Service Design to mitigate reactive solutions that leads to further technical debt
  • Be responsible for third party and internal IT providers including management of significant investment and BAU budgets
  • Attract, develop and retain engineering talent
  • Drive a culture of learning and continuous improvement motivated by Engineering excellence and plays a lead role in supporting Engineering Chapters, guilds and community activities.

What we need from you..
  • A visionary leader and an advocate for digital transformation
  • A passion for team development; allowing colleagues to develop in different/new technologies and mature in ways of working, resulting in a successful team.
  • Extensive experience and technical engineering knowledge in delivering customer experiences on mobile (native and web), and proven experience in development of channel architecture capability.
  • Are technology agnostic and willing to adapt your approach in pursuit of the best solution; enables via an excellent knowledge and understanding of multiple engineering & software design solutions.
  • Experienced in providing software engineering oversight, technical and people leadership across multiple teams.
  • Successful in building a high performing team culture
  • You'll inspire delivery whilst encouraging simplicity and developing confidence & trust
