Galloper Offshore Wind Farm is a 353MW project located 27km off the coast of Suffolk. The Wind Farm represents an investment of around £1.5 billion. It is estimated that the average annual generation expected at the site is equivalent to the approximate domestic needs of more than 380,000 average UK households The 353MW Galloper Wind Farm is owned by RWE, Siemens Financial Services, Sumitomo Corporation and ESB and a consortium managed by Green Investment Group and Equitix. The project is operated by RWE it on behalf of the project partners.
Reporting to the General Manager, the Engineering Manager will manage a team of Engineers with responsibility for the development and implementation of an effective Engineering and Maintenance strategy for the Wind Farm. The team will also manage all technical interfaces with Joint Venture (JV) partners.
By delivering the Engineering and Maintenance strategy, the role holder will ensure safe and efficient operation of the asset by all legal requirements, internal engineering standards and the requirements of the Galloper Joint Venture (JV) Partners.
Principal Accountabilities:
- As part of the site management team, the Engineering Manager will help to develop and deliver the culture, strategies and long-term goals of the site
- Develop and implement suitable team structure and processes to proactively manage all technical interfaces with the Galloper JV
- Manage engineering team recruitment, performance, competence, training, development, morale and productivity
- Develop management systems and maintenance/engineering strategies which deliver compliance with all internal and external legislation, polices, procedures and standards, whilst also meeting or exceeding site performance levels defined in the business plan
- Manage plant area budgets and delegate budget across the engineering team
- Develop contracting strategy, manage key site contracts and support the engineering team with management of all other contracted activities
- Ensure systems are in place to record all activities carried out on Galloper Wind Farm assets in suitable detail to support audit/reporting requirements and to aid the development of future maintenance strategies
- Identify best practice in the industry and as a result implement initiative to improve site safety, availability, EBIT, etc…, delivering continuous improvement in all areas
- Liaise and develop relationships with internal and external stakeholders, single point of contact for interface with the corporate RWE Engineering resources
- Delegate and supervise the management of project work, ensuring work is completed to programme, budget and quality including major component replacements and one of major projects
- Manage asset management systems to work alongside the OFTO owned assets
- Ensure that sufficient out of hours engineering support is available to respond to operational needs
- Support implementation of the Wind Turbine Safety Rules (WTSR) and Operational Safety Rules by attaining authorisations under the rules where appropriate, and by supporting team members to attain relevant authorisations
- Perform Duty Manager cover out of hours and over weekends as part of a rota with other members of the site management team
Knowledge and Skills:
- A relevant engineering degree, in addition to extensive experience in engineering asset operations, preferably within the wind industry
- Experience managing a team of engineers
- Experience managing routine maintenance activities and engineering projects
- Extensive knowledge of policies and procedures necessary for managing the integrity of engineering assets and engineering activities
- Extensive contract management knowledge and experience, including safety, commercial and technical aspects of contract management
- An extensive understanding of HSSE legislation and standards with a NEBOSH/IOSH standard qualification
- Strong interpersonal skills. Able to develop effective working relationships and effectively communicate across the business, with JV partners, and the wider renewables industry
- The ability to investigate safety and process integrity incidents using suitable tools and plant interrogation techniques, and to then implement and communicate robust solutions
