This role requires employees to complete an online Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS), including The Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) checks for criminal convictions.
The Role
UKAEA is expanding its team of Engineering Managers to drive successful delivery of exciting world leading, novel projects. You would be a part of the Integrated Engineering Division (IED) which has an extensive portfolio and track record leading projects for the organisation. This includes key strategic UKAEA programmes strengthening its, and the UK’s, position to provide for the future fusion economy as the technology matures towards commercialisation.
We are currently seeking an Engineering Manager to be responsible for leading the concept design development of the Spherical Tokamak for Energy Production’s magnetic systems. The role will include coordinating the major system design developments (toroidal field coils, poloidal field coils, shaping coils, central solenoid, magnet feeders, thermal shield and cryostat), the integration of the major systems within the confinement systems context but also the within the wider tokamak and plant architectures, contributing to confinement systems realisation activities such as technology roadmaps and manufacturing plans and supporting the confinement systems product area lead on strategic aspects such as planning and resourcing.
Reporting out of the IED’s Engineering Future Projects Group, your main responsibilities may also include:
- Confirming and delivering assigned project scope and executing Engineering Projects to a high standard largely under complex and first-of-a-kind solution conditions.
- Producing and maintaining a suite of technical project documentation (Project Technical Implementation Plan, Engineering Management Plan, system design documentation etc.)
- •Advise the project team on technical solutions, designs and/or critical plant operational and commissioning Issues.
- Leading the development of technical system solutions within a concept design space and successfully integrating them into the wider product context.
