About the Role

RIBA Awards and Honours are a key part of the RIBA’s work and are hugely valued by our members and everyone with an interest in architecture.

The RIBA Awards receive from 400 to 600 entries every year. These range from new-built to retrofit, including conservation, infrastructure and even masterplans. We collect and judge the largest sample of buildings in the country and abroad every year.

The RIBA 2030 Climate Challenge was launched in 2019 and sets out a series of targets for practices to adopt to reduce operational energy, embodied carbon and potable water.

Over the years, the RIBA Awards have reflected the RIBA's sustainable agenda, both in the collection of data and the criteria for our judges. First aligning to the sustainability targets in the built environment and finally, after the RIBA 2030 Climate Challenge was launched, to our own targets.

For the RIBA Awards to be judged with rigorous sustainable focus, the data collected in the form has increased in volume and complexity.

The Environmental and Building Awards Manager will address the need for the programmes to be up to date and relevant from a evidence based data-driven analysis allowing us to address current building trends and opportunities.

What are we looking for?

Our ideal candidate will possess:

  • Excellent knowledge of architecture from either academia, professional experience or personal interest.
  • Knowledge of sustainability of buildings is desirable.
  • Ability to manage a growing dataset of information: clean, enhance, extend, summarise, and provide insight from mid- to large-sized data sets.
  • Stakeholder management experience and the ability to build strong relationships.
  • Self-starter who can use their initiative and take decisions/move projects on in the absence of the Head of Awards.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Data manipulation skills are desirable, for example though using a range of Excel formulas, through coding, or through database creation and administration.
  • Ability to plan and prioritise workload in order to manage a number of demanding projects at the same time.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office and related applications.
