Our Purpose
NELC is committed to safeguarding the environment and promoting the health and wellbeing of its residents whilst supporting the local economy. The Environmental Protection Team ensures that the Council fulfils its statutory responsibilities in relation to Environmental Protection. To carry out inspections, sampling, investigations, and other such duties to enforce Environmental Protection, and nuisance law.
Your Role
As an Environmental Protection Officer, you will monitor and assess complex noise issues and have technical knowledge of environmental law and relevant guidance. You will also be required to supervise, support, and advise technical staff working on noise issues or noise related projects.
As the lead officer in commercial noise control, you will also mentor, train and develop staff in this field.
The successful applicant will also undertake duties in relation to the investigation of pollution incidents or technical complaints in potential conflict situations and enforce environmental standards in commercial premises including odour and air pollution. In addition to being involved in regulating emissions from some of the 62 Part B and 3 A2 industrial processes.
The team also provide advice on a range of Environmental Protection issues in respect of the Development Control process.
About You
This is a unique role that offers lots of opportunities to learn and there is scope for career progression. Previous experience of working in an Environmental Protection/Enforcement or similar role would be an advantage, however, those with transferrable skills and a willingness to learn are welcome to apply.
Our ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, self-motivated, and will have the confidence to take the lead on commercial noise assessment and control.
You should possess a High National Diploma in a scientific/environmental field, and would also be desirable to have obtained a Certificate of Competence in Environmental Noise and/or be willing to undertake further training within this specialism.

Working Arrangements
This role is a blended working role (the duties of the role may require a blend of home & office working in line with needs of the service) . Some of your work will involve site visits and regular direct contact with the public, traders, and other organisations.
