Equine Veterinary Surgeon
Hambleton Equine Clinic are recruiting an Equine Veterinary Surgeon to join our highly dedicated team in our state-of-the-art equine clinic in beautiful North Yorkshire. The successful candidate will have a keen interest in equine dentistry and in return, will have the opportunity to build skills in routine and advanced dentistry alongside our existing dental clinicians. The role will be mainly ambulatory, with some practice-based work and follow-up of own cases is encouraged and will be supported. You will also have responsibility for a wide range of Equine Veterinary work. We offer a competitive salary, CPD allowance, VDS cover and RCVS and BEVA membership. You will take an equal share in the out of hours on call rota, currently one weeknight every other week, one weekend in eight.
The Practice
Hambleton Equine Clinic is the only purpose Equine Veterinary clinic in North Yorkshire with a fantastic, closely-knit, 16-vet team including multiple Specialists and Certificate-holders. We have a full range of equine diagnostic equipment and surgical facilities including standing MRI, bone scan, portable radiography, gastroscopy/endoscopy, ultrasound and hospitalisation facilities with inpatient capacity for over 20 horses. We carry out a variety of case work including pleasure and leisure, performance and sports horses, racing and stud work.
The Role
- Manage a diary of routine and referral dentistry cases including periodontal therapy, restorative dentistry, oroscopic examinations, sinus surgeries and oral and surgical dental extractions.
- Perform all tasks associated with first opinion ambulatory practice which may include but not be limited to; routine vaccinations, health checks, diagnostics, emergency and critical care.
- Create and manage treatment plans for clients.
- Report writing and reporting of case evaluation, progression and resolution
- Interface to insurance companies as required.
- Update of the Practice management system to keep appropriate electronic records including submission to accounts in a timely manner.
- Comply with practice protocols for record keeping regarding pharmaceutical products, stock and restricted medications.
- Cleaning, restocking and preparing work areas and equipment, off-site and on-site.
- Ensuring your vehicle is stocked appropriately for ambulatory practice
- Completing visits and appointments in a timely manner, liaising with Reception staff to ensure clients remain informed about timings and delays.
- Keeping up to date with new treatments in the dentistry field and Contributing to internal knowledge sharing and external client events, CPD and conferences as required.
Successful Candidate
· A recognised Veterinary Qualification
· An understanding and experience of Equine Veterinary practice
· High level of horse husbandry and horse handling ability
· An understanding of sterility and the spread of infection
· Outstanding communication skills
· The ability to be organised in a busy environment and to prioritise tasks appropriately
· Ability to work as a team
