Job description

Main Purpose of the Job

To line manage teachers and support staff in the curriculum area and be responsible for a range of programmes across the curriculum area in line with the areas career pathways and considering the College strategic priorities and the mission for LGC.

To ensure all students in the area access a high-quality teaching and learning experience and receive regular feedback on their progress and agreed learning targets.

To work effectively with colleagues across the organisation to ensure students achieve their English and maths qualifications where required and access support from the student services, learner support and employer engagement teams to enable them to be successful in achieving their qualifications and progressing to employment and/or further study.

There will be some teaching attached to the post, the teaching load will be reviewed annually. Teaching duties will be aligned to the areas business plan, College strategic priorities and the Role of the Professional Teacher document.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POST:

Curriculum Management

  • Line manages teachers and support staff and ensure highly effective day-to-day running of the area.
  • Work with employers and key stakeholders on the development and planning of the curriculum offer to ensure a highly responsive curriculum is in place that meets the needs of our students, employers, and local authority.
  • Ensure a well-developed, innovative curriculum offer is in place across level 1-4 for young people, adults, and apprentices.
  • Plan and manage a range of courses in the area to ensure that the offer takes account of best practice and national developments so that students achieve their learning outcomes and progress to university, further training, or employment.
  • Ensure the course offer is inclusive in its content and design.
  • Continuously improve the quality of vocational subject, and English and maths provision e.g. through ensuring timely compliance with IV/EV requirements, assessment schedules and course review activities.
  • Ensure effective support is in place for all students so that the tutorial framework, eILPs, tracking and disciplinary processes are consistently implemented and meet the needs of all students.
  • Ensure students attendance and progress is monitored in a timely way and proactive interventions are implemented to maintain high levels of student attendance.
  • Contribute to the OTL process as required by the Director of Teaching & Learning to continuously raise the standard of teaching and learning and support the development of innovative approaches to curriculum delivery.
  • Ensure the highest standard of inclusive course materials and resources (e.g. schemes of work, online resources, and course materials) are available and accessible to all students.
  • Develop and implement procedures to ensure consistency and rigour in student assessment and ensure compliance with college polies in relation to assessment tracking including use of pro-monitor and OneFile.
  • Ensure that challenging targets are set at course level and achieved for recruitment, retention, achievement, and progress, through monitoring and follow up of Key Performance Indicators.
  • Implement course planning and timetabling that ensures cost-effective deployment of staff and ensure efficient utilisation.
  • Work closely with MIS and funding team to ensure that all curriculum information is accurate and up to date in line with relevant polices e.g. registers, timetables, staff utilisation, and course information.
  • Through the business planning growth cycle agree recruitment targets for the area and work closely with the marketing recruitment team to ensure agreed targets are met or exceeded.
  • Work with the Marketing and Recruitment team to develop publicity materials and marketing strategies to attract students from all sections of the community.
  • Develop new programmes and curriculum offer, including cross college initiatives such as 14 - 19 and level 4 where appropriate.
  • Organise the day-to-day operations of the area e.g. arranging cover, organising local arrangements for open evenings and parent, employer, or other School / team related events.
  • Hold regular team meetings to ensure clarity of standards, vision, performance expectations are understood by all team members. .
  • Follow the college's appraisal process and ensure annual reviews are held with all direct reports that support staff professional development and enhance quality of offer.
  • Work with the Director of the Student Journey to ensure that the student voice is central to the areas and College's development and improvement.
  • Coordinate partner collaboration with prominent employers, third sector and other organizations whose partnership enhances the quality of the areas provision.
  • Support access to high quality enrichment for all students in the area.
  • To be high profile within all areas of the school / team and ensure that professional standards are evident in all aspects of the school / team's operation and that learner standards are rigorously and consistently applied.

General Duties:

  • The post holder may be required to perform duties other than those given in the job description for the post. The duties and responsibilities attached to posts may vary from time to time without changing the general character of the duties or the level of responsibility entailed.
  • Ensure compliance with college requirements, policies, systems, and procedures throughout the Academy, ensuring that accurate up-to-date records and documentation are kept and held.
  • Take overall responsibility for Health & Safety within the area of responsibility, ensuring that risk assessments are carried out and safe working practices always adhered to.
  • To carry out additional responsibilities as requested by senior College staff and the principal.

General:

  • To be aware of the principles of safeguarding children and young people as they apply to the role with the College. Actively promote and implement the College's Safeguarding Policy.
  • To be aware of the principles and understand the safeguarding responsibilities detailed in the Keeping Children Safe in Education Act 2021.
  • To be involved in college staff development and training schemes and participate in PDR procedures within the team.
  • To adhere to the College's Single Equality Scheme with respect to staff and students.
  • To comply with and implement the College's Health and Safety policy.
  • To adhere to the college's staff code of conduct
