Housekeeping Assistant

Reports to: Housekeeping Manager

Salary: £10.90 per hour

Contract: Contracted, fixed hours, 12 hours per week

We require successful candidates to be able to work flexibly to support the Theatre’s Rear of House operation (ROH) and the Front of House (FOH) opening and programme.

Working patterns will be based across a mix of mornings, afternoons and evenings, 2 days a week. Your availability, the operational needs of the programme and the support required ROH may offer further opportunities to work more hours.

The Role

Here is an overview of the duties:

  • Ensure the buildings are Covid-19 secure for all users by adopting prescribed methods and standards of cleaning. These will be developed from the Government and UK Theatre guidelines as they are updated.
  • Participate in deep cleaning schedules or specialist cleaning methods that will be applied to auditoriums and any other nominated areas.
  • Participate in rear of house routines that complement and support the work of visiting companies. This will include preparation for get-ins and cleaning following get-outs.
  • Understand and demonstrate correct use of all equipment and cleaning materials used in our cleaning methodology adapting to new procedures and equipment as required.
  • Complete waste collection adhering to recycling and green policies.
  • Maintain cleanliness of key external areas that are part of the arrival and welcome of visitors e.g. outside main entrance, Stage Door and emergency exits.
  • Assist with temperature monitoring including maintenance of the equipment and support with appropriate designated areas including first aid room and toilet facilities.
  • Provide a welcoming and accessible environment as you work across the buildings ensuring that PPF behaviours are demonstrated.
  • Report any issues or concerns with regards to Covid-19 procedures, cleanliness, equipment, cleaning materials and health and safety to the Supervisor.
  • Report any defects with the building and its facilities via Premises Helpdesk in a timely manner.
  • Assist and follow-up any enquiries about cleaning procedures as well as offer help about TRP, its facilities, directions, community support and programme (what’s on).
  • Work to effectively resolve any issues brought to your attention, escalating these to House Managers if necessary.
  • Flexible participation in the Departmental rota that reflects and supports the operational needs of rear of house and front of house.
  • Use as instructed and maintain any Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including any uniform issued.
  • Be familiar with and complete training where appropriate in licensing, health & safety legislation, risk assessments, security policies, first aid, basic food hygiene, safeguarding, fire and emergency procedures, Theatre Royal policies.

The Rota

We require flexibility across the team to ensure we support the TRP programme, this will include a Saturday or Sunday shift (if the Theatre is open) and weekday shifts on a rota basis.

This will include days with no shows on our stages through to days featuring up to 6 shows across the Lyric, Drum and Lab from 10.30am to 10.30pm. As part of the rear of house service the team will need to provide cleaning support ahead of the get-ins and following the get-outs which, often, fall across the weekends. This together with the show programme means there will be regular work at weekends.

Shifts will be 6 hours each and as you will see from the examples below the rota would include a mix of morning, afternoon, and evening shifts.

Rear of House 08:30/09:00 to 14:30pm/15:00

17:00 to 21:00

Rear of House areas includes toilets, corridors, staircases, handrails, framed photos/posters, dressing rooms, offices, lifts, noticeboards, shared areas like Stage Door, Green Room, catering facilities, crew rooms, technical areas, wardrobe, workshops, exits and entrances.

Front of House 8:30/9:00 to 14:30pm/15:00

16:00/16:30 to 23:30

Front of House areas includes all foyers, toilets, lifts, furniture, public entrances, exits, emergency exits, catering/bar areas, staircases, steps, handrails, rooms like Pennon and Tamar, auditoriums & Box Office.
