REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS ROLE:
- Minimum 3 years UK experience in Estimating
- Construction related qualification to diploma or degree level, Construction Management or equivalent.
- Full clean UK driving license
- Proficient in MS Office Suites including Excel and Word
- Experience of a variety of procurement routes and construction methodologies and a technical knowledge base
- Demonstration of cost estimating techniques
- Knowledge of construction contracts
- Experience of liaising with internal and external clients
- Attention to detail and a sense of urgency in completing tasks
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Preparation of detailed tender and budget cost proposals
- Returning tender bids within timescales and ensuring competitiveness in the market
- Review of tender / pricing documents to develop a clear understanding of the project requirements
- Advising on procurement strategy and understanding contract conditions / particulars
- Visiting site to assess costing requirements for all projects, including any associated surveying and measuring
- Working with the D&B manager and design team to advise and develop specifications and design solutions
- Working with the client or client’s professional team to develop scope and agree specification
- Liaising with selected sub-contractors to develop design specifications for costing
- Taking supply chain sub-contractors to site where required to view and assess proposed scope of works
- To obtain best value by ensuring a competitive number of prices are received for each work package and where negotiating, to make sure costs are in line with current market rates
- Recommending and advising on proposed sub-contractors best suited for each project
- Preparation of tender and contract documents including work packages and pricing schedules where required
- Assess health, safety & environmental requirements with the project manager and QHSE advisor to ensure any cost implications are captured in tender costs
- Collating overall tender returns for external tenders where required and ensuring submission by the due time and date
- Presenting and explaining costs to clients
- To maximise commercial benefits while preparing tender costs, including agreement of MCDs and other such commercial arrangements
- Developing and maintaining a suitable supply chain to allow a minimum of 3 prices for all sub-contract trades where applicable
- Analysing costs and cost engineering to suit budget requirements
- Formulating detailed tender reports where required for clients
- Understanding contract programmes and procurement of sub-contractors and materials to meet timescales
- Commercial handover of costs to quantity surveyor and operations team, including reporting on projected margin at handover
- Provide information for site management team regarding appointed contractors and work packages
- Providing support to the design & build manager and design & build director as required
