The excellent Executive Support Administrative team within the Meteorology Department at the University of Reading is seeking a motivated and effective administrative officer to lead the small team. If you already co-ordinate a small team, or are ready to take the next step, this could be the challenge that you are looking for. This role is part-time, 28.8 hours per week and office based on the beautiful Whiteknights Campus, Earley Gate. Ideally the workload is to be spread evenly over the weekdays, but this is negotiable. Initially this role is fixed term until 31/12/2025, but it may be possible for the term to be extended in the future dependent on the business needs. The Meteorology Department is one of three busy Departments within the School of Mathematical, Physical and Computational Sciences (SMPCS) at the University of Reading. This coming together of three disciplines makes us one of the largest and most successful clusters of mathematical and computational sciences departments in the UK. We are home to more than 300 staff: including over 90 core academic staff and over 100 research staff; and more than 1000 students across our undergraduate, master's and PhD programmes. The admin team are a very busy, friendly and productive group consisting of four administrators. This role will lead that team by effectively communicating with senior management colleagues, ensure that processes are streamlined, and that workload is distributed evenly throughout the year. The key objective is to support the academic staff with their activities, whilst maintaining accurate records, a harmonious working environment and effective lines of communication with the Joint Heads of Department and Executive Support Manager. Experience of working effectively within an administrative team and be ready to lead this team – either through prior experience or natural progression. Excellent organisational and time management skills. The ability to ensure effective liaison and communication with internal and external stakeholders. Accuracy and attention to detail in verbal and written communications. Excellent IT skills with a range of IT packages and systems (incl. Microsoft Office & Teams). Ability to provide a high standard of customer service and maintain relationships with external stakeholders. Effectively balance competing priorities and meet set deadlines – both your own workload and assessing the needs of the team. Identify areas to improve and streamline processes, working closely with the team on shared goals. Hold at least GCSE Maths and English at Grade C or above (or equivalent).
