Job description

Join us as an External Monitoring Manager

  • If you’re ready for a new challenge and want to make a far-reaching impact through your work, this could be the opportunity you’re looking for
  • You’ll deliver a high-quality oversight service as External Monitoring is a key element of NatWest Trustee & Depositary Services’ regulatory oversight
  • This is a chance to join a forward thinking and collaborative team where you can prosper in a supportive environment, building on your existing skills
  • You’ll work flexibly from home and spend at least one day per week working from our Edinburgh or London office

As an External Monitoring Manager, you’ll use your knowledge of regulations and business understanding to identify issues and share best practice recommendations. You’ll also develop and maintain relationships with clients, internal and external stakeholders.

In addition, you’ll be expected to keep up to date with relevant regulatory developments and actively contribute to team and wider business projects to implement regulatory changes that impact on the External Monitoring programme.

Day-to-day, you’ll also be:

  • Responsible for leading a defined portfolio of External Monitoring reviews on clients, their delegated administrators and global custodians
  • Reviewing the appropriateness of processes and controls to ensure compliance with the relevant FCA regulations, identifying and reporting shortfalls and making sure all findings and recommendations are followed through to resolution
  • Making sure SLAs are met and team metrics are maintained in line with current procedures
  • Making sure regulatory changes and impacts are understood and incorporated into the External Monitoring programme

We’ll expect you to have an in-depth knowledge of collective investment schemes, the funds industry and relevant regulatory requirements. A compliance or oversight and controls background within a trustee or depositary, fund manager, third party administrator company or custodian would be advantageous.

We’ll also expect you to have:

  • A thorough understanding of the trustee and depositary’s oversight responsibilities
  • Experience of standard auditing techniques with excellent report writing skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build excellent working relationships with clients, industry participants and key internal stakeholders
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage and prioritise workloads
  • The Investment Operations Certificate from the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment
