Job description

Do you thrive on working in a complex environment using your ability to navigate organisational and governance issues as well as your skills in project and programme delivery? Can you provide specialist change, leadership, programme, and project management skills to facilitate and lead transformational change? Can you lead and take ownership of activity across a number of initiatives? Do you have an analytical approach to work and excellent communication skills?
The Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences is involved in a wide range of large strategic initiatives aimed at supporting its academic vision for excellence in student education, research and innovation, and internationalisation. These initiatives are large, of long duration and complex, involving many interdependencies and represent a major investment by the Faculty. Working on key strategic initiatives, you must be able to demonstrate significant experience in working at a senior level in leading both projects and programmes of work to deliver agreed outcomes.
The Faculty Business Manager will directly support the Executive Dean and the Faculty Director of Operations to help the Faculty achieve its strategic academic and operational aims. You will play an integral, proactive role within the Faculty, working with the Faculty Executive, interacting with Heads of Schools, Pro-Deans and Heads of Professional Services (e.g. IT, Health and Safety, Facilities Directorate, Finance, and Procurement) on a number of key projects across eight schools and the Faculty’s Joint School of Engineering in China.
This role requires a comprehensive understanding of project planning and an ability to summarise and communicate key data sets. You will be responsible for generating non-research based, high-level initiatives, analyses and communications to the Faculty, University Executive, and other senior teams within the University, e.g. during the annual Integrated Planning Exercise.
You will be someone who can question and challenge, influence colleagues, lead change and achieve results. Your approach will be considerate, persuasive, and engaging, bringing key stakeholders along with you whilst ensuring strategic alignment and delivering transformational change.
You will also take ownership of key operational projects such as development of the Faculty workload model, critical incident and business continuity planning, School staffing support structure, and play a leading role in the development of a Size and Shape strategy for the Faculty, in space management and to assist in the preparation of business cases as required for re-development of the Faculty estate.
