Farm Park Assistant
£11.44 per hour
Zero-hour contract available based at Occombe Farm
Torbay Coast & Countryside Trust (TCCT), is an independent charity dedicated to looking after the most important wildlife and heritage sites across the English Riviera in Torbay, South Devon. Occombe Farm includes a farm animal attraction, indoor and outdoor play facilities, a farm shop and catering outlets.
We are looking to add to our team of Farm Park Assistants. We would like to recruit friendly, enthusiastic, motivated people to join our team in caring for our farm animals while offering exceptional customer service when delivering activities and animal interaction sessions. This role will also have responsibility for ensuring the health and safety requirements of the Farm Park are fulfilled at all times.
Daily responsibilities include:
- Assist with the daily jobs on the farm including mucking out, feeding, and health checking animals.
- Support with other aspects of animal care including feeding/dietary regimes, enrichment and animal record upkeep. Other key husbandry tasks include lambing, incubation of eggs, foot trimming and grooming.
- Providing guests with a fun and educational visit, delivering activities such as practical demonstrations, talks, birthday parties and experience days.
- Working within health and safety policies and risk assessments.
- As part of our team, you’ll need a positive, ‘can-do’ attitude and be driven to deliver our values.
- Excellent time management skills, attention to detail and the ability to work in line with the daily timetable is essential in this role.
The successful candidate will have:
- A good understanding or experience of how to look after a wide range of animals including guinea pigs, rabbits, poultry, sheep, goats and equine.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and to use own initiative to complete tasks.
- A good understanding of customer service.
- Excellent communication skills.
Training will be given to successful candidate to help them deliver excellent service to our customers and animal husbandry training will be given ensure animals are kept to the highest of welfare standard and staff are confident when working with them.
