We're the UK’s largest producer of low-carbon electricity, the biggest supplier of electricity by volume in Great Britain, the largest supplier to British businesses and we employ more than 13,000 people. We operate nuclear, coal and gas power stations, wind farms, and combined heat & power plants. We have a focus on safe, dependable energy generation and an ethos of service excellence. We are playing a leading role in new nuclear build in the UK to secure a bright future for the combined business and its employees.
Field Engineer (Coatings)
Are you experienced in Construction Surveillance activities, particularly in the field of NEC Supervisor duties? Are you familiar with HPC Quality standards and expectations, and do you have a track record of ensuring their realization in field operations? Are you comfortable working collaboratively within a team environment to fulfil the responsibilities of a NNB Surveillance Field Engineer?
If so, join EDF as a Field Engineer (Coating), and you’ll join one of the most exciting and ambitious projects within EDF.
The Opportunity…
We’re looking for you to embark on this extraordinary journey with Hinkley Point C, a cutting-edge nuclear site nestled in the heart of West Somerset, just 15 miles from Bridgwater. Joining the HPC site construction team, you'll play a pivotal role in the realisation of our ambitious plan to build two major EPR nuclear plants. As our Field Engineer, your expertise in delivering large and complex projects under tight constraints is vital, considering the project's scale, duration, and immovable completion date.
As a Field Engineer, you'll play a vital role in championing our Nuclear Safety Culture, actively incorporating this mindset into every process and activity on the Project. Your focus will extend across all construction-related activities in the designated section of the Project as well as performing thorough surveillance on the Works Contractors' activities, encompassing continuous, notified, and planned surveillance.
Pay, benefits and culture…
Alongside a competitive salary ranging between £55,000
- £60,000, depending on experience, we’re dedicated to offering flexible benefits that support our people across all aspects of their lives. This role is a full time, permanent position based on site at Hinkley Point C and requires flexible working due to possible shift and weekend work on a business need basis.
We offer a market-leading company pension scheme, paid holidays and a range of flexible benefits, such as: a company incentive bonus plan, cycle to work scheme, discounts and employee pricing.
At EDF, everyone’s welcome. We strive to create an inclusive and diverse environment where everyone has a voice and where you feel confident being yourself.  We’re committed to equality, diversity, and inclusion.  We’d like our future workforce to have an equal gender balance, represent a broad mix of people from minority ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQ+, those with a disability and supporting social mobility.
We’re a disability confident employer and we’ll do all we can to help with your application, making adjustments as you need. We’ll value the difference you bring and offer opportunities for you to thrive and succeed.
What you’ll be doing…
As our next Field Engineer, your role will include overseeing the quality compliance within the designated section of the Works, aligning with NNB surveillance strategy requirements. Reporting to the Construction Superintendent, you contribute to site-wide management, fostering effective interaction with operational members. Beyond reporting duties, your role involves adhering to and enhancing company policies, procedures, and protocols, ensuring construction and health & safety standards are upheld. Additional responsibilities, also include:
- Check that Works align with the contract, promptly notifying the Construction Superintendent of any non-conformance requirements.
- Proactively communicate and maintain robust links with site teams, ensuring timely surveillance reports.
- Contribute surveillance insights to support KPI indicators and identify potential Quality issues for proactive resolution.
- Support instructions to mitigate and maintain safe works, taking necessary actions to prevent halting of operations.
- Ensure formal processes for design decisions, avoiding ad-hoc decisions "in the field."
- Enhance the team's understanding of current and future site activities, promoting a comprehensive perspective.
- Review Contractor performance against authorised Quality Control Plans, ensuring adherence to quality standards.
Who you are…
Utilising your previous skills within coating inspector roles, you’ll enhance your abilities in this role to enhance our “right first time” approach to your work. With the ethos of “check the checker”, the department is responsible to ensure all health and safety requirements are met in this role, so a solid understanding of Health and Safety legislation will be required along with:
- A broad and comprehensive understanding of the building industry, materials, trade methods, and legal requirements.
- Exceptional organisational, delegation, and communication skills, thriving in high-performing teams that consistently surpass expectations.
- Proven expertise in maintaining accurate and concise diaries, specifically tailored to the nuances of different contracts.
- Previous experience in high voltage, low voltage, or extra low voltage
- A demonstrated track record of successful collaboration within large construction teams.
We’re looking for you to hold a minimum of an NVQ/CSCS Card in a trade discipline or equivalent. This, along with ICorr Protective Coatings Inspector Level 2 or NACE/AMPP Coating Inspector Level 2 or FROSIO minimum Level 2 Inspector or equivalent. It would also be desirable for you to hold QRB or CCAQ equivalent as well as experience in Concrete Coating application and inspection.
With keen attention to detail, the ability to foster productive relationships with contractors, and a diplomatic yet independent approach, you are well-equipped to navigate the complexities of the construction landscape.
Join us and together we can help Britain achieve Net Zero.
