Yunex Traffic Field Service Installation / Maintenance Engineer Apprentice

Yunex Traffic designs, markets, manufactures, installs, and maintains a wide portfolio of international traffic management products and is the UK market leader in the traffic signal business. This includes intersection and pedestrian traffic controllers, intelligent urban traffic control systems, variable message signs, public transport, and car park guidance systems to enhance road safety and improve traffic flow in congested urban and inter-urban areas.
The challenge
Part of being a #TrafficTransformer apprentice at Yunex Traffic means you get to work on real life projects whilst also being supported on a guided learning journey, and often experiencing different areas within the business.
Our apprentices get the opportunity to find their passion and in turn, we get their passion. We’re always looking for apprentices who want to make a difference to the world we live in.
This will be a 4 year programme where you will complete a Field Services Apprenticeship. Whilst completing the training programme, you will have the opportunity to be cross-trained in other areas, such as fault administration, workshop processes, store management and work with other Yunex equipment. This will lead to you being a more knowledgeable engineer with a deeper understanding of how your work interacts with others and fits into the bigger Yunex picture. Alongside on-the-job training, you will also work towards an NVQ which consists of two levels, which will enable you to be utilised across the whole spectrum of skill sets and disciplines. To assist with your learning, you will also be allocated a mentor. It should also be noted that this Apprenticeship will involve working outside and working at height. You may also have the opportunity to complete a HNC qualification should you demonstrate the appropriate skillset and attitude.
The candidate
We are looking for forward-thinking, inquisitive candidates who demonstrate the following characteristics:
- You should have good communication skills, both written and verbal
- You are confident when working at height
- As the apprenticeship involves completing academic qualifications and occupational skills developments, you should have good organizational skills and be able to manage your time appropriately
- You must be willing to self-learn and research and take a creative approach to problem solving.
- You enjoy collaborating with others to find innovative solutions
- You can work independently, safely and responsibly; take ownership of challenges and ideas and are looking to develop your ability to drive and lead change
- Identify with our values of Zero Harm, Innovative, Excellent and Responsible. We can teach you the knowledge on your apprenticeship however it also means a lot to us for you to align to our culture and behaviors
- You should be IT literate, able to use Microsoft Office packages
- In this field service role, you will be expected to drive a company vehicle therefore you will need to have gained a driving license within the first two years of the apprenticeship
Here is what you can make a difference in:
- Installation of traffic signal assets (including the installation and wiring of controllers), ancillary equipment and/or highways systems unsupervised or as part of a team
- Complete electrical tests and pre-commissioning activities
- Liaising with customers and other contractors that may be on site
- Ensuring works are completed in accordance with the site specification, in a timely manner and to a sufficient quality level
- Periodic inspections with electrical testing
- Routine maintenance of highways infrastructure
- Successful completion of mandatory NHSS training requirements
The location of this apprenticeship role will be at our Dundee site

Minimum Educational and Skills Requirements
English Language, Mathematics or Physics at Scottish National 4/GCSE Grade 4 or above
A keen interest in Electrical engineering is desirable and computer literate

Recruitment Process
Applications for our apprenticeships will close between 28 Feb – 18 March 2024.
We will be holding in-person 'Getting to know Yu' days between mid February – early March 2024 which will allow candidates the best opportunity to showcase their potential and suitability for this role by using a variety of assessment types. This session will be held in an afternoon or morning slot and will typically include a combination of tasks and activities such as group problem-solving tasks, individual interviews, presentations, and role simulation exercises.
For some roles, there will also be an initial video (Microsoft Teams) or telephone interview - these are likely to be held during February 2024, before the Getting to Know Yu day. These interviews are typically competency based and a chance for us to find out what your motivations are for your next career.
Our Apprentices will join the business on 19th August 2024 so you must be available from this date.
