Finance Assistant The Role:
UCU is seeking a Finance Assistant (Fighting Fund) to join the team on a permanent/full-time basis. In this exciting role, based in our Head Office in London NW1 and reporting to the Head of Finance, your main duties will be:
- Processing applications to the union s strike fund (fighting fund)
- Responsibility for a range of financial accounting and administrative functions
- Responsibility, as a team member, for UCU s sales and purchase ledger
- Liaising with external auditors
- Responding to enquiries from members, suppliers, lay officials and UCU staff, regarding relevant financial matters
Finance Assistant You:
The ideal candidate must be educated to GCSE level or equivalent (inc. maths & English) and would suit someone with experience of a similar working environment in a Finance Department and/or understanding of working for a trade union or other not-for-profit organisation.
Other requirements are:
- A knowledge and understanding of financial and accounting procedures and principles, including knowledge of double entry bookkeeping and computerised accounting systems
- Excellent numeracy skills
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively (verbally and in writing) at all levels
- Experience of using Microsoft applications to a level that ensures the effective fulfilment of the role
- An ability to work quickly and accurately
