My client is an FCA regulated insurance broking intermediary and Lloyd's binder coverholder with c.35,000 retail policyholders. Their current Finance Director is leaving the business after many years, and we are seeking a part-time Finance Director to take over the running of their finance function. The ideal candidate will have experience working in a regulated financial services business or in a similar Lloyd's coverholder business and will be a self-starter who is keen to take responsibility. As part of a small focussed senior management team the post holder will have the opportunity to contribute to the strategy and execution of the business plan.
A total of 21 hours per week is required and this can be worked flexibly, i.e. 3 full days, or to be worked across 5 days; they would though like someone who is willing to be in-office 3 times per week.
Key tasks & responsibilities:
- Xero Accounting financial record keeping
- Statutory annual financial reporting
- Preparation of monthly management accounts, quarterly Board meeting packs and proposal of quarterly dividends
- Banking: Payments, reconciliations, placing money on fixed term deposit
- Reconciliation of information from custom made in-house database to bank accounts and Xero Accounting
- Monthly payroll checking and approval and year end payroll tasks
- Monitoring of regulatory capital
- Monthly reporting to underwriters, brokers and compliance company within specified deadlines
- Producing information pack for annual financial audit and liaising with auditors on the preparation of annual financial statements
- Prepare annual budget reports and quarterly forecasts
- Liaise with external tax advisor for corporation tax calculations
- Prepare paperwork for, and renew, all insurance renewals (PI, D&O, cyber, office, computer)
- Attend audit, binder and compliance meetings as requested
- Attend quarterly Board meetings
- Attend office staff meetings, liaise with HR, payroll and company secretarial
- Complete required CPD training
- Assist team when and where necessary and any other reasonable general management functions
Skills, Qualifications, Experience
- Full qualified accountant (highly desirable), part qualified accountant (essential)
- Solid and demonstrable experience working in an accountancy department
- Highly competent in the use of accounting software packages (preferably Xero)
- Significant demonstrable skills and experience with Excel and data analysis
- Highly numerate with a good understanding of business and accounting language
- Experience working within or experience of an FCA or Lloyd's regulated/insurance environment is highly desirable
- Experience undertaking Company Secretarial duties is beneficial
