Job description

Kenny Recruit are working with a thriving, and one of the UK's fastest growing, e-commerce retail business. They are on the search for their next Finance Director and are looking for an individual who is keen to help direct the company towards eventual sale. Their story is humble, growing from a single product launched in 2013, and have since created six brands and acquired three more in a number of different categories. Their future is exciting as they strive to create new products, enter into new categories, and expand their operations even further across the globe.

As the Finance Director you will be the strategic financial advisor to the CEO & Founder of the business. Responsible for effective management of cashflow, financial risk management, forecasting, and determining the financial strategy as they continue to grow. This is a fantastic opportunity to join the Senior Leadership Team at a pivotal stage. Following several years of successful growth, they now have a team of more than 80 people (8 of those in finance), sell in 16 different markets internationally and deliver to 80+ countries. They intend to continue to grow, launching in new countries and on new channels. Whilst reporting to the CEO, you will also work closely with the COO to continue this success as the company takes over an increasing share of the market.

Pay: £100,000 - £130,000 per annum + benefits (dependent on experience) + bonus + share options

Location: Camden area (flexible working is offered but there is an expectation for this role to be in the office when needed, if that is 5 days a week on occasion then that would be expected, without fail.

Working hours: 9.00am - 6.00pm

Responsibilities:

Finance

  • Autonomous control of the finance function.
  • Ensure cashflow is appropriate for now and the future.
  • Maintain legal compliance for the company, with a particular focus on tax and VAT compliance.
  • Manage and improve group reporting.
  • Build, grow and maintain banking relationships, and ensure that appropriate working capital funding is available as required.
  • Maintain and improve upon FX strategy.
  • Oversee the collation and distribution of standard costing.
  • Help the business to understand where the problems and opportunities are within its operations.
  • Drive financial planning, forecasting and efficiencies across the business.

Strategy

  • Support the CEO/Founder and COO to deliver on their future goals for the business.
  • Build out a sound financial strategy to propose and agree with the Senior Management Team (SMT).
  • Define, monitor and improve the key metrics by which the business will be measured.
  • Collaborate on and develop new business opportunities for the group.

People

  • Manage, coach, develop and inspire our existing Finance team members, ensuring they have both the skill and will to succeed.
  • Support the SMT with creating an internationalised workforce that increases efficiency and effectiveness of performance whilst maintaining or reducing payroll costs.
  • Work closely with our People and Culture Manager on Reward/Compensation strategy.
  • Mentor our managers and Heads of Departments.

Technology & Innovation

  • Complete the rollout and migration from Xero to Microsoft Business Central (implementation underway). Drive its use, engaged with and ensure it is fit for purpose.
  • Identify and supervise the implementation of other technology that will assist and support the Finance team and other business functions to be more efficient and data driven.
  • You will identify opportunities for automation to ensure efficient and accurate reporting.

Our ideal candidate would be someone who...

  • Has experience as Head of Finance, FD or similar senior level within an SME.
  • Has significant financial planning & analysis experience as well as developing and reporting to KPIs.
  • Has strong leadership and management skills.
  • Is an excellent communicator, able to tailor their style to individuals.
  • Is proficient in the use of Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Business Central, Power BI (or similar dashboarding software). Experience with Xero would be useful.
  • Has delivered the successful roll out of an ERP and continued to ensure that it is improved and maintained.
  • Has thorough knowledge of corporate financial law and risk management practices.
  • Has a commercial mindset, is curious, and always looking for the next opportunity.
  • Is able to view the business holistically - while Finance is the immediate focus, as a member of our SMT you’ll be thinking 'bigger picture’.
  • Has excellent financial acumen; a BA or MA in Finance, Mathematics, or Engineering would be beneficial, as well as being a qualified accountant (CIMA, ACCA).
  • Has experience in a consumer or stock/inventory heavy business.
  • Has been through a full or partial sale and/or fund-raising process.
