Finance Director (Designate) – Watford - £(phone number removed) (DOE) + car + benefits package
We are delighted to be working with a well-established dynamic SME based in Watford. This is a highly profitable company that saw 22% growth last year and is predicting similar this year. This exciting opportunity within an owner-managed SME environment will give you diverse exposure. Not only will you be overseeing Finance you will also be integral to the leadership of the organisation from a commercial and operational perspective.
This role plays an important part in the succession planning for the company; working alongside the Commercial Director as they transition into a non-exec role you will then progress into the position of Finance Director. Reporting to the MD you will be responsible for all aspects of financial control for this profitable, cash-rich company, with many new projects and opportunities for growth. This is a hands-on position, playing an active part in delivering all areas of finance and leading a small finance and admin team. Key internal relationships include being the trusted finance and business advisor to the MD and member of the Senior Management Team.
Key responsibilities of the role include….
Management and oversight of day-to-day operations for Finance.
· Delivering simple, actionable monthly management information to the Management Team, giving insightful analysis that helps drive profitable decision-making
· Reviewing annual Sales target-setting process and setting up departmental budgets
· Management of working capital, and detailed cashflow management
· Annual Statutory accounts work, meeting demands of full audits, in collaboration with external accountants.
· VAT returns, cashflow, payroll (currently subcontracted), pension scheme management (NEST and a SSAS), company insurance renewals
· Overseeing tax returns, producing R&D tax credit claims, and general tax strategy
· Potential to add additional management portfolios with time dependent on candidate experience (e.g. HR, IT)
· Developing a team, helping to upskill and bridge the gap to management.
What the client is looking for…..
· The ideal candidate will be qualified CIMA/ACA/ACCA with experience as a Hands-On financial leader with Signatory Authorities in a similar SME environment.
· You will have a good understanding of business systems with experience of selecting and implementing new finance or other core business systems and strong Excel skills, ideally to Macro level.
· You will have strong commercial acumen and be able to evaluate and advise the MD on business threats and opportunities
· Understanding of Sage line 50 full package with bolt-ons and experience of at least two CRM systems with a detailed understanding of the full sales and marketing process, for both direct sales and via distribution.
· You will have experience in a manufacturing environment, BOMs and costing, and a broad systems understanding outside the Finance function.
The successful candidate will have a strong attention to detail with a wide range of financial and operational expertise. They will be excellent communicators across all departments at all levels, with a keen interest in all aspects of the business operations, keen to grow with the role and within the company.
