The Role & Key Responsibilities
First Aid and Medic Trainers instruct operational Police Officers and staff in classroom based learning and practical skills to assist in the preservation of life. This includes the communications skills to deal with various situations situations though to administering oxygen, analgesic drugs and performing life preserving actions . Instructors will train new recruits and serving officers in a supportive learning environment. They deliver blended methods of training across the whole training curriculum. To support and promote the concepts of quality of service and diversity in policing to achieve the ideals set out by Surrey Police. To design, deliver and evaluate learning activities in order to improve the cost effectiveness and quality of staff training throughout the Force and to meet external and internal requirements. To ensure all staff are given the opportunity to develop the required competency to carry out their role within the Force by managing the learning and development of students. To consistently monitor the delivery of learning to achieve the required student levels of knowledge, skills and behaviours and where necessary to identify, challenge and influence to ensure students adjust their behaviours. To support and manage learning and assessment activities to ensure the achievement of accredited packages. Produce lesson plans (as directed) which are to Force standard and reflect the CoP criteria and are regularly updated. Respond to any problems being experienced by the individual student and assist in identifying the cause and agreeing a suitable way forward, acting at all times in accordance with force policy. To hold tutorials with students to discuss their individual progress and where necessary, to guide them so as to enhance their rate of development to promote a learning organisation. Liaise with the SBS to ensure students are provided with appropriate pre and post course material. To recognise, supervise and challenge inappropriate behaviour displayed in the training environment in a professional manner to ensure that Force standards of behaviour are maintained. Establish effective networks with key internal and external partners to implement collaborative approaches to learning and development, as well as the overall management of their role as guest speakers. Maintains professional competence and practice to be able to deliver several Learning & Development topics using varied learning styles to suit all. Any other duties as determined by the Team leader and expected of the pay grade.
Skills & Experience
Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills together with the ability to facilitate the development of others and to influence and empower students. Exceptional presentation skills with the ability to facilitate workshops for individuals & teams. The ability to demonstrate a comprehensive understanding and appreciation of the concept of diversity, with the ability to embed this knowledge throughout all learning and development programmes. Well-developed written communication skills and the ability to produce clear, concise and accurate records and reports. Highly motivated with the ability to work on own initiative under minimal supervision. The post holder is required to assist the department with the monitoring of kit and equipment that the team are responsible for ensuring it is fit for purpose and managed effectively. The job holder will be required to undertake weekend working on a rotational basis. Unsocial hours will be paid as applicable. Regular hours are 0730 - 1730 4 days per week CPD - To ensure their own CPD (continuous professional development) is kept up-to-date and recorded. Travel - Individuals must be prepared to occasionally travel across Surrey & Sussex The post holder must be willing to undertake specialist courses to meet the demands of the department and Force, as deemed appropriate by the department head.
