Job description

Lincolnshire County Council has established a national reputation for its partnership approach to managing Flood Risk.  We are seeking an enthusiastic Flood Risk Officer to help us maintain and develop this reputation.

Are you interested in working in a small but high profile and high achieving team?  If you are proactive, good with people and looking for a challenging and busy role, then we want to hear from you.

About The Role

You will play an important role in maintaining communications about the work of the team and its functions, working directly with other internal departments, partner organisations and community representatives in informal environments including site visits, as well as in more formal circumstances such as partnership meetings and committee meetings.

Specifically in this role you will be required to undertake Section 19 Investigations and prepare Section 19 reports following flooding events as part of the Councils criteria role as Lead Local Flood Authority.

In addition, as well as supporting team colleagues to provide day to day delivery of the roles and responsibilities of the flood and water team, you will identify and support delivery on specific projects and workstreams all the while ensuring that key strategic and operational priorities for the Council are delivered on time and within budget.

This role also enjoys the flexibility of office/ site and hybrid working.

About The Team

As Flood Risk Officer, you will work closely with colleagues in the flood and water team, liaising with officers across many different Council services as well as with a wide range of partner organisations.  You will play an important role in supporting the cohesion and development of the flood and water team, while working to ensure seamless service delivery to the public on behalf of the Council as a whole.

About You

You will be a team player and a confident and able communicator, with an eye for detail. Good interpersonal and communications skills will be important attributes for the successful candidate, along with the ability to clearly explain complex technical matters to those who may not be familiar or expert in the issues at hand.

While experience of working in the Flood Risk sector will be an advantage, the most important attributes for the successful candidate will be the right skills and attitude to contribute effectively to a fast-moving, high-profile area of work, and to support your team and the wider Council to deliver a high-quality service to the public.

You will ideally be qualified to HNC or equivalent in appropriate subjects OR you can demonstrate an appropriate level of knowledge and skill for the role.

It is paramount that you have effective communication skills, which is essential to providing careful and considered responses.

A full candidate essential and desirable criterion can be found on the Job Description, which is attached to the advert on the LCC Jobs page.

Above all else you need to have a positive "can do" attitude and be passionate about ensuring Lincolnshire is the ideal place to live and work

Your enthusiasm for developing new ideas to delivery stage will be matched by your commitment to maintaining and improving existing services with other teams in the County Council and a range of partner organisations.
