TITLE: Forklift Driver/Warehouse Operator
REPORTS TO: Warehouse Manager
We are partnering with one of the worlds longest established and globally recognised Freight Forwarding Specialists to recruit for an experienced Forklift Operator (counterbalance truck) / Warehouse Operative to work as part of a team at their Middlesbrough Warehouse facility.
PURPOSE OF JOB:
This position sits within their freight case manufacturing function, which manufactures international packing cases to ensure that the customer cargo travels by it’s relevant mode of transport safely, securely and arrives in the same quality at the supplier as it did on arrival to the warehouse.

Monday to Friday work pattern (no shift working/weekends) Work Pattern: Mon-Thurs 0800-1700, Fri 0800-1600
MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES (listed but not exhaustive to):
- Pre start up checks of forklift trucks, any other MHE such as cranes and any other machinery, jigs and tools that may be used prior to use
- Notify management/supervision of any defects or equipment falling outside of specification or requiring repair
- Work through cargo/Goods in priority set by either supervision/management or by the information on the cargo labels
- Process cargo through all elements of the process (off loading of vehicles, booking in of material, packing of material, both physically and through using the PDA system transactionally, building of load plans and load out of cargo all based on process work instructions
- Use PDA system to book in pack up and transactionally load out and keep in-house BLU system up to date
- Use of power tools (impact drivers) to seal up freight cases
- Administration tasks where required
- Maintain quality and customer focus
- Report any safety or damage related incident to management so appropriate root cause & corrective action can be identified and actioned and work within site Health & Safety procedures
- Keep working areas clean, tidy and safe at all times
- Dispose of materials into the correct waste streams
SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND ATTRIBUTES:
The job holder will need to be able demonstrate:
- Previous experience of working within a warehouse (Essential)
- Must be capable and confident of handling bespoke loads including commodities such as pipe up to 13 meters long, steel plate, bespoke sized cases and pallets as well as standard sized pallets
- Must have a current forklift license (counter balance truck) or if obtained in house, have proof of experience of operating forklifts and be prepared to take a refresher course
- Previous training (certified) in lifting procedures/practices or prepared to undertake the training in house
- Familiar with manual handling best practice
- Experience of using PDA’s/hand held scanners within a barcoded warehouse facility would be advantageous
- Good IT skills, especially using Microsoft Excel,Word, Outlook
- Previous experience using MRP/ERP/Warehouse management systems an advantage but not essential
- Ability to plan daily work schedules/priorities in order to maximise efficiency and complete the established daily workload
- Good understanding of health and safety standards/procedures, especially forklift truck operations
- Reliable and committed individual with a good work ethic and will work within the company values
- Demonstrate a `can do` positive attitude to tasks
- Problem solver, with good attention to detail
