Job description

Established by teachers for teachers, Education Support, previously the Teachers’ Benevolent Fund, have been supporting teachers and education staff for 146 years.

Education Support are the UK’s only charity providing mental health and wellbeing support to all education staff and organisations. They offer a range of services, including a free and confidential helpline, counselling, coaching, grants, training and resources.

The charity works with partners from the education sector, the government, the media and the public to raise awareness of the challenges and needs of education staff, and to advocate for better policies and practices that support their wellbeing. A recent report published by the charity found that 84% of teachers and education staff are stressed or very stressed and 74% have experienced symptoms of poor mental health. The work of Education Support has been never been more needed.

The Fundraising Lead will play a vital role for the organisation, ensuring income from individual giving and legacies. The organisation is on the cusp of reinstating relationships with partner organisation that will open up new potential audiences and donors to the charity. This role will hold the balance of ensuring the current fundraising income, circa £1.2 million, is maintained with effective stewardship of their 20,000 donors whilst looking ahead to potential of the new audiences.

As Fundraising Lead, you will: 

  • Take responsibility for the individual giving and legacy portfolio, ensuring opportunities for growth are maximised
  • Develop and execute donor acquisition and retention strategies
  • Produce and review campaign materials
  • Work with the communications team to craft effective messages to audiences
  • Manage and develop a fundraising officer
  • Manage a budget, ensuring KPI’s and other metric areas are hit

Ideal skills and experience: 

  • Strong experience and expertise in individual giving – this role would suit an experienced individual giving manager who is looking for their next career step
  • Ability to spot trends in the sector, bringing a testing and learning approach to individual giving
  • Line management experience is not needed, as coaching and development will be provided around any learning areas needed
  • Agility of thought and being able to adapt to the needs of a smaller organisation
  • A highly collaborative style, who enjoys working with a range of high performing colleagues
  • Excellent communication skills and can develop strong internal and external relationships
  • Purpose driven with a commitment to the values of Education Support and their beneficiaries
