Job description

We are currently seeking a skilled and experienced Gastroenterology Consultant to join our esteemed team. As a Consultant in Gastroenterology, you will lead and deliver high-quality specialist care to patients with gastrointestinal and liver disorders. This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic individual to contribute to the provision of excellent clinical services and play a pivotal role in improving patient outcomes.
Responsibilities:
  • Provide expert clinical leadership and specialist medical care to patients with a wide range of gastrointestinal and liver conditions, including but not limited to inflammatory bowel disease, gastrointestinal bleeding, liver disease, and functional gastrointestinal disorders.
  • Conduct comprehensive consultations, diagnostic assessments, and therapeutic interventions, including endoscopic procedures such as gastroscopy, colonoscopy, and therapeutic ERCP, as well as non-invasive diagnostic tests and imaging studies.
  • Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams, including gastroenterology nurses, dieticians, radiologists, and surgeons, to ensure coordinated and holistic patient care, facilitating seamless transitions between inpatient, outpatient, and community-based services.
  • Participate in ward rounds, multidisciplinary meetings, and clinical audits, contributing to the development and implementation of clinical guidelines, protocols, and quality improvement initiatives to enhance service delivery standards and patient safety.
  • Engage in teaching, training, and supervision of junior medical staff, medical students, and other healthcare professionals, promoting a culture of learning, excellence, and continuous professional development within the department.
  • Contribute to research activities, clinical trials, and academic projects in gastroenterology, fostering innovation, evidence-based practice, and the advancement of medical knowledge in the field.

Requirements:
  • Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) and eligibility for entry onto the GMC Specialist Register in Gastroenterology or equivalent qualification.
  • Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) or equivalent postgraduate qualification in Gastroenterology.
  • Extensive clinical experience in Gastroenterology, including advanced endoscopic procedures and management of complex gastrointestinal and liver disorders.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, with the ability to provide clinical guidance, mentorship, and supervision to junior medical staff and contribute to service development and improvement initiatives.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment and engage effectively with patients, families, and colleagues.
  • Commitment to delivering high-quality patient-centered care, promoting clinical excellence, patient safety, and continuous improvement in healthcare services.
