General Environmental Maintenance Operatives are required to undertake a varied role, working outdoors, carrying out responsive and programmed cleansing work such as manual or mechanised street cleaning, removal of fly tipping, emptying litter bins and other similar types of environmental work.
Key responsibilities:
Clean public areas of rubbish throughout the city.
The areas covered include the following: streets (including roundabouts, traffic islands, highway verges, service roads and footpaths); recycling centres; paved areas; car parks; public open spaces.
Inspect the streets and sweep or litter pick as necessary to maintain the standard required by Part IV of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 and the Code of Practice on litter and refuse.
Respond to reports of litter, graffiti on Council property, and fly-tipping.
Provide and empty litter bins.

Knowledge:
Knowledge and understanding of Health & Safety requirements.
Experience:
Minimum of 12 months recent experience in a similar role, or context and ideally within a public sector organisation.
Relevant experience of working within a demanding manual role e.g. labouring, cleaning and maintenance, waste removal, working with hydraulic equipment.
Skills & Abilities:
Good communication skills.
Ability to work as part of a team.
Able to demonstrate professional and customer-focussed service at all times.
Physically fit with ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
