Grain Store Operative/Loader Driver

Overview

Walker Grain Drying and Storage is looking to recruit a new Store Operator/Loader Driver at our site in Pocklington (just outside York). We are a privately owned family business with over 38 years of grain storage experience. We provide professional processing and storage of approximately 60,000 tonnes of combinable crops per year.

As a Store Operative your main responsibilities will in include loading and unloading of wagons, assisting in general Grain Store duties around the site and maintenance. This is a moderately physical job and depending on the time of the year can be demanding. This would be an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys working outdoors.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the below list, and the employee will be expected take on additional responsibilities from time to time.

General Store Management

· Loading and unloading wagons including the movement of material around site

· General store maintenance and ensuring that the site is always kept tidy

· Responsible for carrying out daily, weekly, and monthly storage checks, specifically temperature monitoring and store pest monitoring

· Assisting with the submission of store records

· Maintaining and upholding the highest standard of safety on site, ensuring a safe working environment. Holding all staff and visitors accountable on adhering to site safety rules

· Effective communication with all members of staff on site

· Some weighbridge/lab duties

Maintenance & Engineering

· Carry out regular maintenance on all grain storage and processing equipment

Training would be provided for the following:

· During harvest periods may be required to operate a Grain Dryer

· Awareness of grain storage procedures that comply with the Trade Assurance Scheme for Combinable Crops (TASCC) codes of good practice.

Successful candidates will:

· Ideally have some grain handling experience

· Preferably have experience in agriculture

· Be technically minded and have basic practical mechanical understanding and experience

· Be excellent at working either on their own or as part of a team

· Have good communication skills

· Have a positive & flexible attitude

· Be hard working and reliable

· Have excellent attention to detail.

Experience

Essential

· A licenced/skilled loading shovel driver/telehandler driver

Desirable

· Previous Grain Store experience/Agricultural experience

Work Location: In person

Salary: £30,000 - £32,000 (dependent on experience) per annum, plus the potential for additional income through overtime.

Hours of work:

During the months of November to June (outside of the harvest period) normal hours of work are from 7.30 am to 4.30 pm Monday to Friday inclusive.

During the months of July to October (during harvest period) normal working hours may be extended and therefore there would be a requirement for the Store Operator to work overtime including the potential for weekends if required in order to meet the needs of the business.
