Job Title: Grounds Maintenance Operative

Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Grounds Maintenance Operative to join our Local Authority team. As a Grounds Maintenance Operative, you will primarily work with the Cemetery Team, ensuring the proper maintenance and upkeep of our cemeteries and burial grounds. This role requires a strong attention to detail, excellent time management skills, and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. This role is Monday to Friday but might require you to work some Saturday's
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the Cemetery Team to maintain the cleanliness and appearance of cemeteries and burial grounds, ensuring they are safe and presentable for visitors
- Perform a range of Grounds Maintenance tasks, including grass cutting, hedge trimming, weed control, and general landscaping duties
- Operate and maintain a variety of Grounds Maintenance equipment, such as lawn mowers, strimmers, hedge trimmers, and leaf blowers
- Assist with the preparation and maintenance of gravesites, including digging graves and backfilling as required
- Ensure that all health and safety procedures are followed, including the proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials
- Carry out minor repairs and maintenance of equipment and machinery as needed
- Keep accurate records of work completed, including daily activity logs and maintenance schedules
- Assist with the setup and take down of temporary structures for special events or ceremonies
- Provide excellent customer service to visitors, responding to inquiries and offering assistance as required
Requirements:
- Previous experience working in Grounds Maintenance or a similar role is preferred
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently, with minimal supervision
- Strong attention to detail and a high standard of workmanship
- Excellent time management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations related to Grounds Maintenance activities
- Experience operating and maintaining Grounds Maintenance equipment, such as lawn mowers, strimmers, and hedge trimmers
- A valid driver's license, with the ability to drive and operate a variety of vehicles
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact professionally with colleagues and members of the public
- Physical fitness and the ability to perform manual tasks, including lifting and carrying heavy objects
