AWE is at the start of a once-in-a-generation programme to design and build a replacement warhead for the UK's continuous at sea deterrent. Such a programme requires a significant investment in our infrastructure including several new facilities and upgrades to existing infrastructure. As such, we are looking for a Group Leader - Engineering (Governance, Risk & Compliance) to join the Engineering Team and be part of the Capital Engineering Leadership team. The Group Leader Process, Risk & Compliance role is responsible for smooth and efficient running of a multi-discipline technical office team accountable for the management arrangements, governance and Regulatory frameworks.
Working closely with our delivery teams and delivery partners this Group Leader will be responsible for transforming our business processes, systems and ways of working to support our major infrastructure investment. This position leads technical multi-disciplinary teams (approximately 50) which also include Team Leaders.

Capital Engineering at AWE:
The Capital Engineering function provides people, processes, services and expertise to the delivery teams as we develop and deliver the most exciting and challenging next generation of facilities and equipment to enable the qualification, manufacture and through-life support of critical product components. The Capital team serve three significant portfolios, firstly our Future Materials Campus, for new nuclear production facilities. Secondly our Cross Conventional programme for new explosive, chemi-toxic and conventional production facilities. Finally, our Liabilities programme for the decommissioning, demolition and disposal of legacy production facilities and equipment including some site security projects.
In this role you will report directly to the Head of Capital Engineering and will be pivotal in demonstrating excellent leadership and direction across the teams.
Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities:
Accountable to the Engineering Head of Function for providing strategic leadership of our management systems, governance and management controls.
Implementation and compliance monitoring of management arrangements and engineering control plans.
Ensure that we can demonstrate throughout a project lifecycle compliance with our legal and Regulatory requirements.
Influence simplification and optimisation of AWE Enterprise management systems, data gathering and asset management systems.
Provide multi-discipline subject matter experts to standardise and optimise design solutions and engineering assessments.
Engage and support the delivery teams and their delivery partners encouraging continuous improvement and innovation such that we share and apply best practice across different projects.
Act as an ambassador for AWE demonstrating excellent interpersonal, engagement and presentation skills.

An ONC/HNC in scientific or STEM discipline, or equivalent NQF level 4/5 qualification or an Engineering degree (preferred)
Chartered Membership of an appropriate professional institution (preferred).
Experience of successfully managing a high performing and motivated engineering team where you have championed ED&I initiatives and actively promoted diversity of and innovation in thought and approach.
A proven track record of engineering performance and continuous improvement.
Experience delivering engineering digitization strategies that drive efficiency and growth.
An ability to steer people through transformation and change
Skills and experience to lead by example with regards to positive behaviours and safety culture.
