JOB TITLE: Group People Risk Specialist
LOCATION: Bristol, Leeds, Halifax or Edinburgh
SALARY: £101,932 - £119,920
HOURS: Full-time
WORKING PATTERN: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week, or 40% of our time, at one of our People & Places hubs.

As a Group People Risk Specialist, you'll be integral in redefining how we manage People risk, upping the pace as we do more to grow, focus & change. Our business is on a huge transformation journey to ensure that we remain relevant for our customers today & tomorrow.
You'll be responsible for leading and developing the provision of the 2nd line of defence and oversight of the organisation’s management of People Risk in alignment with our Enterprise Risk Management Framework (ERMF). This includes:
  • Owning, implementing & embedding risk policies, appetite, and control objectives to support consistent and compliant behaviour and enable risk-based decision making.
  • Creating a People Risk centre of excellence that provides expert risk and control advice and oversight, so that risk and control owners can discharge their accountabilities and the organisation can grow safely and deliver high-quality customer, regulatory and business strategic outcomes.
  • Providing leadership, insight, and support across the organisation to enable the execution of second line of defence roles and responsibilities as defined within the model.
Key accountabilities:
  • Act as the Group’s People Risk lead and represents the organisation and builds strong relationships with externally, in particular regulators and other governing bodies.
  • Develop short and long-term strategies to ensure the Group’s performance management framework is aligned with the desired risk and control culture.
  • Own design and implementation of People policies and appetite, including tolerances and thresholds. Leads and facilitates their understanding and adherence throughout the organisation, including ongoing management and continuous monitoring.
  • Lead the creation and ongoing development of Group guardrails for People Risk acceptance and mitigation. Supports Group leadership and risk owners to make risk-based decisions that are consistent with risk appetite.
  • Own and define appropriate control objectives for People Risk to ensure that the Group’s business processes, systems and activities are conducted in a controlled and compliant manner.
  • Lead oversight of the effective operation of the Risk Management and Control Framework by the risk and control owners. Ensures People Risks are measured, monitored, controlled, and reported on a timely basis and consistently across the Group, and provide independent challenge to risk decisions.
  • Lead the development and implementation of a risk and control oversight plan to assess compliance to relevant laws, regulations, industry standards and/or established controls.
  • Interpret new and existing regulations accurately and adeptly. Forethinking the direction of travel and anticipating the impact of the proposed changes on the Group.
What you'll need:
  • Policy development & implementation – use expertise to act as the organisational authority on developing and implementing people policies and ability and skills to interpret & apply knowledge of laws.
  • Operational Risk Frameworks – deep subject matter expert internally and externally with a strong depth of understanding of the latest Operational Risk frameworks and technology being used across financial and non-financial services to enable them to lead a specialist risk centre of excellence. Demonstrate expert knowledge of relevant laws, regulation, industry standards and established practice in technical subject area. Experience of developing and owning group-level policy and setting risk-appetite, with expertise in continuous monitoring and reporting on group exposure. Able to set control objectives and set performance indicators.
  • Strategic Decision Making – demonstrate good and timely decision making that keeps the organisation moving forward and skilfully balances difficult trade-offs with the ability to understand business strategy and opportunity risks. Have examples where you have assimilated different sources of data and complex information to effectively problem solve and make relevant conclusions and recommendations. Demonstrate ability to interpret new operational risk regulation, emerging risks and technology innovations with forethinking to anticipate the impact of changes on the Group and act accordingly.
  • Influencing – acted as a Risk Specialist business partner, using strong communication skills to build partnerships and work collaboratively with others to meet shared objectives. Examples of building effective, ongoing data-led Operational Risk control objectives working with others, including external regulators.
  • Future focused by being able to conceptualise and articulate a customer centric desired end state that has clear line of sight to our Group Strategy.
  • Inspires others by gaining followership and commitment to future action through personal integrity and collaboration, demonstrating an inclusive approach. Coaches to go faster by demonstrating commitment to create an environment that builds teams with skills aligned to our Group Strategy and Purpose creating new and better ways for the organisation to change at pace.
