Title: Hate Crime Advocate
Responsible To:Hate Crime Advocacy Service Project Manager
Location: Belfast Hub - Albany House, 73-75 Gt Victoria St, BT2 7AF or Foyle Hub – 6th Floor Embassy Buildings, 3 Strand Rd BT48 7BH
Hours of Work: 35 Hours per week Monday to Friday 09:00am to 17:00pm
Candidates may be required to work additional hours including alternative shift patterns when authorised and as necessitated by the needs of the business.
Duration: Fixed Term Contract until 31st March 2025.
Salary: £26,877.00 FTE Per annum
Purpose:
The role holder will manage a caseload providing Hate Crime advocacy support to victims Hate Crime, primarily disability but may include other protected characteristics, from moment of referral to completion of Police, PPS, and/or Courts process, complementing existing services provided by Victim Support NI and help ensure that victims’ individual needs are met.
The role holder will also work closely with other agencies developing links and networks across the statutory and voluntary sector to increase Hate Crime reporting and promote and further develop advocacy support to victims of Hate Crime particularly disability Hate Crime.
Travel throughout Northern Ireland is required.
ORA minimum of 5 years’ experience advocating on behalf of individuals with complex needs
Skills and Experience:•Demonstrable understanding of the key issues affecting victims of different types of Hate Crimes including knowledge of current legislation regarding Hate Crimes.•Evidence of strong organisational skills and the ability to maintain a caseload. •Proven experience of providing advocacy support to individuals facing challenging and sensitive issues. •Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with other people, organisations and as part of a team, and build positive relationships with partner organisations.•Ability to produce accurate written and verbal reports against deadlines and in line with organisational requirements.•The post holder must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office packages.
Desirable CriteriaIn addition to the above essential criteria, the following additional desirable criteria may be used to shortlist applicants:•Any relevant professional Advocacy qualification (e.g. City and Guilds Diploma in Independent Advocacy).•Experience of working within the Northern Ireland criminal justice sector. •Experience of operating in the voluntary or statutory sector.•Experience of advocating on behalf of disabled individuals
