We are looking for a fantastic leader to join us as a Head of Asset Management and be part of a truly unique business that operates, maintains and renews the UK’s only running high-speed railway. The infrastructure team maintains and renews all route and station based assets along the HS1 route.
Are you a strong people person, with a drive and knowledge to improve Asset Management, implement change, sponsor renewals works and be a key part of the senior infrastructure leadership team?
This role works right across the business, getting us ready for our next control period, and leading a team overseeing the day to day links between the team who develop the standards and the maintenance team who delivers against these. You will be the asset manager for both Railway route (track, signalling, civils, overhead line, telecoms and mechanical & electrical) and stations (St Pancras, Esbbsfleet and Stratford International) based assets.
You will also be part of the senior infrastructure leadership team on-call roster with a 1 in 6 week average rota.
You will have a passion for improving train performance, understanding risk and what we can do to mitigate, and ensuring that we operate a safe, and very high reliable railway.

Who we are
Network Rail High Speed Ltd. (NRHS) is responsible for operating and maintaining the UK’s only international high-speed railway, High Speed (HS1).
The 109km HS1 infrastructure consists of a diverse range of railway assets such as the track, signalling, overhead line, lineside buildings, depots, viaducts and long tunnels. NRHS is also responsible for operating and maintaining three international stations; St Pancras, Stratford and Ebbsfleet International.
As a wholly owned subsidiary of Network Rail Infrastructure Ltd, NRHS is privately financed under an agreement with our client ‘HS1 Ltd’, undertaking a diverse range of activities from railway infrastructure maintenance and operations - through to station facilities management and retail on behalf of our client.

Brief Description
The role
We are looking for a Head of Asset Management to work in our Infrastructure team at Network Rail High Speed (NRHS) to manage and direct the development of the NRHS engineering Asset Management plans (for both route and stations assets on the HS1 infrastructure).
You will also:
Manage the production of specifications and acceptance criteria for engineering works for all aspects of investment.
Provide a comprehensive engineering support service to maintenance..
Your key accountabilities would be to:
- Lead the development of NRHS specific plans, including all maintenance, renewal and investment activity.
- Manage the inclusion of all investment items into appropriate programmes and track through to completion (including approval of programme changes). Determine and advise on the implications if work is not undertaken in the recommended time-frame.
- Monitor Asset Management plans to confirm that they are appropriate to deliver the required regulatory outputs and amend the plans as necessary to deliver compliant output targets.
- Agree maintenance activity volumes with delivery unit teams.
- Sponsor asset renewal schemes.
- Review investment papers for compliance to agreed requirements and participate in funding negotiations.
- Manage the development of renewal and enhancement schemes to meet NRHS’ goals in accordance with company asset policies and standards from project inception to transfer to delivery.
- Manage the specification of acceptance criteria for engineering works including design approval, acceptance of equipment and hand back to maintenance as appropriate. Where necessary check that the acceptance processes are being discharged.
- Act as engineering authority for engineering deliverables associated with renewal and enhancement activities unless formally delegated to others.
- Provide professional engineering and Asset Management leadership and manage the provision of a comprehensive Asset Management support service focussed on NRHS delivery units.
- Provide consistent advice and guidance on best practice Asset Management principles.
- Lead the development of Asset data specification, Asset Management system requirements, and governance standards for NRHS and monitor compliance to these standards.
- Lead the development of NRHS’ Asset Management framework, including the Strategic Asset Management Plan in accordance with ISO 55000 requirements.

About the role (External)
The person
So, who are we looking for? If you can answer ‘yes’ to the following questions, then we look forward to receiving your application.
Do you have:
- Broad and extensive experience of managing a large complex and diverse asset base, (particularly related to maintenance and renewals)?
- Proven sound knowledge of technical, safety and performance standards?
- The proven ability to lead Asset Management engineering activities in a business environment?
- An understanding of safety management systems and risk assessment techniques?
- Experience of managing a large, multi-disciplinary customer focused team?
- Experience in the integration of complex engineering systems?
- Understanding of CDM regulations?
- A degree in an engineering discipline or equivalent experience?
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status (or working towards) or Membership of the Institute of Asset Management?
Although it isn’t essential, it would be an added bonus if you had expertise in engineering management in a safety critical industry.

The role is based at either St Pancras or Singlewell. Frequent travel to our other office and site locations along the High Speed line is expected.

We follow a structured pay framework, any salary offered will be within the following pay range:
Band 2C - £85,395 - £96,070 (plus inner/outer London allowance of £3,270 if based at St Pancras or £1,940 if based at Singlewell)
