Head of Compliance - Aon Ireland Limited (PCF 12 and PCF 52)

What the day will look like
Reporting into the EMEA Heads of Law & Compliance until the Ireland Head of Law & Compliance position is filled, the successful applicant will act as Head of Compliance for Aon Ireland Limited (AIL) and Aon Broking Technology (ABT). Key responsibilities are as below:
  • Compliance Business Partner for the following comprising advice, guidance and challenge:
  • Aon's Commercial Risk and Health solution lines under AIL
  • Aon Broking Technology, which houses ABT and ACIA
  • Assume the PCF 12 role for Aon Ireland Ltd (220 days) and Aon Broking Technology (30 days)
  • Provision of advice and guidance to the Ireland & Nordic CEO for compliance matters
  • A strong and vocal voice at Executive and senior leadership level on important regulatory & governance matters
  • An advocate and key collaborator of structured and rigorous governance across the organisation
  • A key contributor to the Aon Ireland Risk, Compliance and Ethics programme
  • Assisting to develop Aon Ireland Limited's (AIL) Compliance Framework
  • Leading all aspects of Compliance in line with regulatory requirements, Aon's compliance policies and procedures
  • Help to foster a sound risk and compliance based culture across the Aon Ireland businesses with the help of the Board and Senior Management
  • Provide regular and timely compliance reporting and management information to the AIL & ABT Boards, Executive Management and other relevant forums
  • Work efficiently with the Head of Compliance for Health Solutions in the AIL entity and ensure there is an effective risk and compliance framework for the legal entity
  • Provide assurance, guidance and evidence to the AIL & ABT Boards that all risk and regulatory matters are being appropriately managed and overseen in line with regulatory requirements and expectations
  • Ensure that all regulatory reports, business requirements and notifications are submitted to the Central Bank of Ireland on a timely basis and in accordance with CBI expectations
  • Lead and implement a robust risk-based monitoring programme , record and communicate findings appropriately and report findings to the AIL Board
  • Assist with the implementation of an effective compliance communication and training plan consistent with Aon's global compliance training and communication initiatives to ensure that compliance policies and procedures are successfully cascaded to colleagues
  • Implement business unit specific compliance policies and procedures where required
  • Keep abreast of current compliance and regulatory risks, as well as changes to the local regulatory environment and best practices which may affect the AIL and the compliance programme . Also, identify and interpret relevant requirements/changes in order to provide advice and support to colleagues to enable them to comply.
  • Report and escalate effectively to EMEA L&C Leadership where require d , act as Legal and Compliance representative on local, regiona l and global fora
  • Assist where required with broader initiatives within the wider Aon Ireland Solution lines and on a regional level
  • Ensure that issues raised by Internal Audit, External Audit and any other similar bodies are remediated
  • Actively participate Global/Regional Compliance calls/meetings and follow-up on actions agreed
  • Develop a network of contacts within Aon, both in Ireland and globally, in line with Aon's 'Delivering Aon United' initiative
  • Promote close collaboration between all Aon business units/functions helping to empower colleagues to take personal responsibility for compliance with all relevant legal, regulatory and Aon policy requirements
  • Any support that the Aon PLC Board may require which is based in Ireland working with the Company Secretary team
How this opportunity is different
This is an opportunity to operate at all levels of the Aon Commercial Risk organi s ation in Ireland. The primary goal is to advise and guide the CEO and leadership team on Risk & Compliance matters on the one hand, whilst making sure that the businesses are operating to a strong risk & compliance framework . The successful applicant will be the point of contact and liaison with the Central Bank of Ireland ("CBI") , maintain ing an effective working relationship whilst providing ongoing adv ice and counsel o n compliance, risk and local regulatory issues in conjunction with specialist colleagues such as AML, Financial Crime, Privacy and Legal Counsel . This is an exciting opportunity for one to s trive to continuously enhance the relationship between c ompliance, commercial r isk c olleagues and all collaborators so that the regulatory agenda is included early in strategic discussions.
Skills and experience that will lead to success
  • Degree level or equivalent (desirable)
  • P rofessional qualifications and/or Licentiate of Compliance Institute
  • Financial Services Industry Qualification (preferable)
  • Proven experience with a m inimum of 5 years' experience in a regulated entity
  • People management skills
  • Proven practical knowledge and experience in compliance management
  • Experience of providing advice on a cross border basis
  • Detailed knowledge and understanding of the Insurance Distribution Regulations, Central Bank of Ireland's requirements and Codes of Business Conduct
  • Experience in issues relating to the protection of data
  • Excellent oral, written and presentation communication skills
  • Leadership experience, with skills such as intuition for business , strategic planning, and decision making in view of financial priorities and internal and external conditions
  • Interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with all levels within an organisation, to identify and analyse organisational needs with solid problem-solving abilities
  • An understanding if the Investment Intermediaries Act would be useful
