Bord G??is Energy generates, sells, and trades energy for use in the Republic of Ireland. We've been in operation since 1976 and today we supply over 750,000 customers with energy in Ireland. In 2014 we became part of Centrica plc. As Head of Corporate Affairs, you'll lead a comprehensive external relations strategy to enhance Bord G??is Energy's corporate reputation and will also have responsibility for external communications and oversight of the press office.

You'll manage the corporate communications, public affairs and internal communications agenda to position Bord G??is Energy as a leading provider of energy and services in Ireland and help to protect the reputation of the organization. You'll work closely with the Energy Management Team to develop and communicate company positioning and ensure this is effectively communicated to key media, and other external stakeholders. You'll also have responsibility for managing a communications specialist and delivering the strategic internal communications agenda.

About the Role

  • Develop and lead the strategic communications agenda at Bord G??is Energy, including Corporate Affairs, to maintain and build Bord G??is Energy's reputation. Support the executive management team in effectively communicating to key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Manage the company's corporate public relations and media strategy with ongoing proactive and reactive engagement to develop relationships with media and to build the company's overall profile.
  • Lead an internal communications resource and develop a strategic internal communications programme to ensure Bord G??is Energy colleagues are engaged and informed and support the company's purpose, values, and overall strategy.
  • Work collaboratively with teams across Bord G??is Energy and Centrica including Energy Marketing & Data, Legal & Regulatory, Assets and Trading, Finance, HR and Operations in message development and work closely with consumer PR team to ensure all messaging is aligned, consistent and amplified to the correct audiences.
  • Understand key business drivers and competitive dynamics to position business interests successfully with target groups.
  • Develop a strategic and methodical approach to stakeholder management and public affairs.
  • Monitor local and European political agendas relevant to Bord G??is Energy and ensure the company's interests are represented when matters of concern/ policy arise.
  • Develop Bord G??is Energy's company position on key strategic priorities and ensure they are effectively communicated to key stakeholders in a timely manner.
  • Develop and implement a programme of thought leadership content and identify opportunities for Bord G??is Energy participation, both speaking and attendance at relevant external events.
  • Work with the Centrica Corporate Affairs team to ensure Bord G??is Energy is compliant and consistent with Group messaging and ensure group economies of scale for PR and PA support can be realised in Ireland.
  • Responsible for Crisis Communications planning and response including participation in the Crisis Management Team, emergency exercise simulations as well as the prompt and effective management of day-to-day incidents.
  • Lead the management of external agencies to support with the corporate and internal communications and public affairs agendas.
  • Manage the Corporate Affairs and PR budget and negotiate with suppliers to ensure best value.
  • Ensure that a record of lobbying activities is maintained and the quarterly lobbying return submitted.

About You

  • A strong knowledge of the Irish political, key external stakeholder and media landscape
  • A minimum of 5-8 years Corporate Affairs experience and ideally in a large commercial organisation
  • A minimum of a relevant third level qualification in public relations, marketing or journalism
