Job description

The Met offers hybrid working options. However, it should be noted that this role is based in London and works from a Met location four days per week.
Protecting London is one of the biggest challenges that UK policing can offer and, like the Capital, it’s evolving every day. We’re currently undergoing the biggest transformation in our history which means that you’ll be joining us at an incredibly exciting time and will contribute to the leadership of the organisation through an intense period of change.
With over 46,000 staff and officers, and a budget of over £4 billion, the first duty of the Met is to protect the public, making London a safer place to live, work and visit for everyone. As a member of Human Resources [HR] Senior Leadership Team, you’ll be responsible for providing excellent leadership to the HR function in conjunction with the Director of HR and other senior colleagues, during this period of unprecedented change and complexity, developing and implementing an effective employment framework that delivers on the priorities within the New Met for London strategy.
The post holder will shape the overall people policy framework for police officers and staff; ensuring that it drives effective employee engagement and means that the MPS can attract, reward and retain the requisite talent. The role will have responsibility for subject matter expertise and for leading HR policy, HR case management (including Grievance), reward, pensions and payroll centres of expertise within the retained HR function.
As Head of HR Policy and Reward, you’ll provide strong transformational leadership and have a key role in shaping and delivering the Reward and Policy agenda; reforming pay, implementing new terms and conditions and re-shaping the employee offer. You will drive change and maximise outsourcing arrangements to deliver leading edge HR services and value for money.
It will be your role to ensure MPS Executive leadership and HR professionals are aware of and take appropriate action in response to legislation changes affecting policy and employment frameworks – whilst seeking to put managers at the heart of people processes, drive improved operational outcomes and achieve high levels of employee engagement.
As well as ensuring strategic alignment of the Met Reward Strategy and working with national bodies to develop annual submission for Police Remuneration Review Body; you will provide leadership in some of our most high risk and complex people cases.
A suitably strong candidate will possess CIPD membership or equivalent accreditation or comparable experience.
As well as energy and enthusiasm for change, you will be able to assess and anticipate risk whilst developing control measures. You will draw on your proven track record of managing complex, sensitive and high profile HR organisational change programmes.
You will have experience in the implementation of employment policy and reward frameworks. You will have vast working knowledge of all HR departmental areas, including reward and recognition, welfare, learning and development, as well as HR systems and budgets.
How to apply
If you meet the eligibility criteria set out above and would like to apply for the role please email HRMailbox-.SeniorAppointments@met.police.uk to request a copy of the application materials.

Closing date/time: 11.55pm, Monday 18 March 2024
Candidates will be required to submit their CV with a supporting statement, outlining the skills and attributes they will bring to the role within the Met. You will also need to provide a completed diversity monitoring questionnaire and additional information form.
We view diversity as fundamental to our success. To tackle today’s complex policing challenges, we need a workforce made up from all of London’s communities. Applications from across the community are therefore essential.
As a Disability Confident committed employer, the Met has committed to ensuring that disabled people and those with long-term health conditions have the opportunities to fulfil their potential and realise their aspirations.
