Job description

The GB Strategy is responsible for defining & designing the Commercial Strategy across all categories and channels, building the physical availability roadmap to achieve the GB performance ambition. Working in partnership with Brand Marketing, the team build the commercial plan through the lens of sub-channels – the plan that drives what, where and how we implement.

The team are decision makers on the sub-channel success models on pack, price, place and promo and are responsible for building medium and long term plans to achieve market share ambitions, drive net revenue maximisation and profitable growth.

This role leads a team of 2-3 including Revenue Growth & Planning Managers and a Senior Category Strategy Manager. Core work entails

  • Input into Marketing Business Plans and leadership of Commercial Planning within the Integrated Business Planning process
  • Set the Commercial Strategy & Plan for innovation
  • Put RGM thinking at the heart of optimised 4P plans for the portfolio
  • Make recommendations for business processes including range optimisation, minimum pricing and allocations
  • Lead Pricing Strategy across portfolio including recommendations on sub-channel specific cost price increases
  • Support commercial teams to sell externally through category and commercial strategy, pricing sign off and input into joint business plan areas of prioritisation for strategic customers

Top Accountabilities

  • Lead the development of the Fiscal+1 Commercial Plan for Diageo GB that combines the needs of brands, channels, customers and Diageo’s short- and long-term market share and financial goals.
  • Develop the 3-5 year strategy in partnership with Brand Marketing
  • Build the Physical Availability Roadmap that delivers the strategy through the lens of strategic pricing, pack price architecture, assortment, channel mix and promotional effectiveness
  • Lead the 4P input into innovation commercialisation within the Gate process
  • Externalise Commercial Strategy with our Top Customers to embed future growth areas within strategic partnerships
  • Evolve mid-to-long term Commercial Strategy in response changes in the market including shopper behaviour, inflation, legislation and market performance.

Qualifications & Experience Required

  • 8+ years of FMCG commercial, category and RGM experience
  • Exceptional ability to build and maintain genuine relationships based on mutual trust & respect
  • Successful management of senior collaborators at all levels, resulting in strong and positive outcomes
  • Holistic skills across all RGM pillars as well as a track record of leading transformational business results
  • Able to excel when dealing with ambiguity, complexity and working within a fast-paced and  entrepreneurial matrix environment
  • Demonstrated brilliant execution to impeccably high standards
  • Deep personal accountability for great performance
  • Strong end to end commercial FMCG understanding, alongside high levels of numerical competence and attention to detail
  • Experience of working with and leading a team, whether directly or indirectly
  • Experience working across multiple categories/channels within FMCG
